Cannot Sign-in (other than my work-account with the right password) due to Authenticator problem

When doble security sign-in has been on with an old Authenticator, it corossreacts with a new Authenticator and does not let me sign in to the second level of authentication. It asks for code and shows a double digit number, but Microsoft doens not let me in by any means or ways to choose it from any list of double digit numbers or e-post sign-in, or what not.

The account is stuck at the second factor because the only configured method is the old Microsoft Authenticator, and the new app is not yet registered for that account.

Use these steps depending on what is available:

    1. Try “Sign in another way”
      • When prompted for the two-step verification, select Sign in another way.
      • If any other methods are listed (SMS, call, email, security key), choose one and complete sign-in.
      • After signing in, go to the Security info page and add or update methods so the new Authenticator can be registered:
    2. If no other verification method is available
      • If Sign in another way does not appear or shows no usable methods, the account cannot be verified by self-service.
      • For a work or school account, contact the organization’s IT admin/Help desk and ask them to clear or reset the MFA settings for the account in Microsoft Entra ID. After they reset MFA, sign in again and re-register the Authenticator on the new phone.
    3. If sign-in attempts are blocked or codes are not received
      • Repeated failed attempts or unusual activity can cause temporary blocking of MFA or code delivery. Wait and try again later, and avoid repeated requests for codes.
      • If still blocked, ask the IT admin to review Microsoft Entra sign-in logs and MFA configuration.

Until an alternative method is added or an admin resets MFA, the sign-in cannot proceed because two-step verification always requires a valid second factor.
