Outlook reply not inlcude original text message on MacOs

Hi,

I'm using Outlook desktop version 16.101 (25091314) on my Mac, and I need to reply to emails without including the original message text. I've only been able to find tutorials for Windows, not for Mac. Could you help me with this?

Please check in Outlook> Settings > Composing.

Under Attribution of original message, choose None to include nothing from the original message.

If you do not see this option, try updating your Outlook Mac in Help > Update. Or download the package via Update history for Office for Mac - Office release notes | Microsoft Learn.

Thank you for your reply.

I set the Attribution of original message option to None, but it did not work as I expected. It removed the From, Date, To, and Subject lines from the original message, but the body of the original message was still included in the reply.

What I need is for nothing from the original message to be included at all.

Could you please help me with this? I noticed that Outlook on Windows can do this, so I’m wondering why Outlook on Mac cannot.

Thanks for your update.

Your observation is correct. After I checked again the ability to not include the original message body is currently not supported on Outlook Mac and Outlook Web. The only desktop client that supports this is Classic Outlook for Windows.

I do think this feature would be handy for users to have more control in replying to emails.

Therefore, my recommendation is to contribute your ideas via Outlook · Community.

After submitting, please paste the link here so I and other people who have the same ideas can vote up your feedback.

With more people vote for it, the higher chance Microsoft will see and consider this feature.

As for now, please manually delete when reply to emails, I know this is an extra step, but it is the only way at the moment.

Outlook for Mac does not currently provide a setting to automatically omit the original message text when replying, unlike Outlook for Windows where this can be configured under File > Options > Mail > Replies and forwards.

The documented options to change how the original message appears in replies and forwards (such as “Do not include original message”) apply to Outlook for Windows (Outlook for Microsoft 365, Outlook 2024/2021/2019/2016/2013) and are not available in Outlook for Mac.

On Outlook for Mac, the original message is included by default when replying. To avoid sending it, the only available approach is to manually delete the quoted original content from the reply body before sending each message.
