    Hello,

First, please confirm if your Microsoft account can log in. Please visit the following link to check if your Microsoft account is working properly:

    https://account.microsoft.com/

If you can log in via the website but not via the software, which software programs are you trying to log in to?

Follow these steps in order, avoiding repeated sign-in attempts while testing each step:

    1. Confirm the correct sign-in site or app
      • For Microsoft 365 work/school: sign in via a browser at https://myapps.microsoft.com or your organization’s custom My Apps URL (for example, https://myapps.microsoft.com/contoso.com).
      • For consumer Microsoft account (Outlook.com, OneDrive personal, Xbox, etc.): use the normal Microsoft sign-in page and apps, or start with the Sign-in Helper below.
    2. Use the official sign-in helper (personal Microsoft account)
      • If this is a personal Microsoft account, run the Sign-in Helper: Sign-in Helper.
      • Enter the email/phone for the account and follow the guidance it provides to resolve detected issues.
    3. Reset the password the supported way
    4. Check for lockout or too many attempts
      • Multiple failed sign-in or MFA attempts can trigger temporary protection:
        • For work/school accounts with Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication, wait for the lockout period to expire and try again later, or use a different MFA method if available. If suspicious activity is suspected, contact the IT administrator and ask them to review Microsoft Entra sign-in logs.
        • For personal Microsoft accounts, if the system reports too many attempts or suspicious activity, wait at least 24 hours with no further attempts before trying again. Repeated attempts can extend the lockout.
    5. Verify security info and MFA methods
    6. Clear app/browser state and retry
      • For browser sign-in (Microsoft 365, My Apps, Outlook on the web):
        • Confirm the URL is correct (https://myapps.microsoft.com or organization’s My Apps URL).
        • Add the site to Internet Properties > Security > Trusted sites.
        • Clear browser cache and cookies, then close and reopen the browser and sign in again.
      • For Outlook mobile or other Microsoft mobile apps:
        • Ensure the latest version of the app is installed.
        • Remove the account from the app, then add it again after password reset.
    7. If seeing “Sorry, but we’re having trouble signing you in”
      • When the error appears on a page starting with https://login.microsoftonline.com/login.srf, the detailed error code is embedded in the page source. The documented guidance is:
        1. View the page source of the error page.
        2. Search for HR= and note the numeric code that follows.
        3. Provide that code when contacting Microsoft technical support or the organization’s IT admin so they can troubleshoot using the official error-code table.
    8. When to contact support/admin
      • Personal Microsoft account:
        • If the Sign-in Helper and password reset do not resolve the issue, follow the guidance in “I can't sign in to my Microsoft account” and, if necessary, use the Microsoft account recovery form and/or contact Microsoft Support from another account.
      • Work or school account (Microsoft 365/Entra ID):
        • If sign-in still fails after password reset, waiting out any lockout, and verifying MFA/security info, contact the organization’s Help desk or IT admin. Provide the correlation ID, timestamp, and any error code from the sign-in page so they can investigate in Microsoft Entra sign-in logs or escalate to Microsoft support.
