Unrecognized charge on my credit card

A $99.99 charge was posted to my credit card on February 28. What is the charge for? No charge was authorized by me on that or any other recent date. I don't know what the charge is for, so I have no idea what "tag" to select. We have no children using our devices.

$99.99 might be a subscription for Microsoft365 Family.

Possibilities on why it may be there include a auto-renewal, or accidental purchase, or someone in your family purchased using your credit card.

It can also be because your credit card details were stolen from elsewhere and someone got a hold of it, sold it to others, and at some point it is now used for this subscription.

If you are absolutely sure this has nothing to do with your end and suspect fraudulent use, the quickest method might be to dispute the transaction with the bank.

Personally, each year I have weird transactions from US merchants on my credit card, usually for credits, gift cards etc which I know nothing about. I simply dispute this with my bank and get new cards issued. The banks would insist issuing new cards as they claim once the information has been leaked, they are not liable for future fraudulent charges.

This forum is just a user to user forum, no-one here has any account access, using any Microsoft account you may have, try using the steps they provide on this link to find out what that payment was for.

Then use the steps they provide on this link to cancel whatever that payment was for and get a refund.

Use the Microsoft account tools to identify the charge and then act based on what you find.

    1. Investigate the charge in the Microsoft account dashboard
      1. Go to the Manage your payments page of the Microsoft account dashboard: Manage your payments.
      2. Locate the $99.99 charge and select Investigate next to it. This tool walks through the most common causes of unrecognized charges, such as:
        • A Microsoft 365 or other subscription with recurring billing enabled.
        • A purchase made by someone else who has access to the card or account.
        • A previously declined charge that was later processed.
        • A pre-order or split order that has just shipped.
        • An in-app purchase from an app, game, or Office product.
    2. Check Microsoft order history
      1. Sign in at account.microsoft.com/billing.
      2. Select Payment & billing > Order history and set the date range to include February 28.
      3. Look for any order with an amount of $99.99 and a status of Completed or Redeemed. Select Order details to see what product or subscription the charge is for.
    3. If the charge is accidental or unauthorized
      • If it is an accidental or unauthorized Microsoft Store purchase, follow the guidance in Returning items you bought from Microsoft for exchange or refund to request a refund.
      • If it appears to be a subscription charge that is not wanted, review the subscription under Services & subscriptions in the Microsoft account and cancel it if appropriate, then follow the refund guidance for subscriptions.
      • If there is any indication that someone else is using the Microsoft account, follow the steps in how to recover a hacked or compromised Microsoft account and how to help protect your Microsoft account to secure it.
    4. If no matching order or subscription is found
      • Use the Manage your paymentsInvestigate flow again to confirm the charge is not tied to another Microsoft account.
      • If still no match, contact Microsoft Support using the billing issue path described in the Q&A references, or contact the card issuer to dispute the charge as potentially fraudulent and request that the card be blocked and reissued.

If there is concern that card details may have been stolen more broadly (not just by Microsoft services), review recent transactions on the card and consider enabling a credit/identity monitoring service such as Microsoft Defender’s identity theft monitoring to watch for further suspicious activity.
