    Hi Shelia Jumper,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand how frustrating this can be, especially when you need your camera for meetings and everything in Windows already appears to be turned on.

To help us better pinpoint what’s blocking the camera, could you please let me know when you first noticed this issue? For example, did it start after a recent Windows update, after restarting your device or did it stop working suddenly without any noticeable changes?

In the meantime, since you’re using a Lenovo device, there is an additional layer of camera privacy that can override Windows settings. Even when Windows permissions are enabled, the camera can still be blocked by Lenovo’s own controls. Please open the Lenovo Vantage app from the Start menu, go to My Device Settings and then select Display & Camera. Check for any option related to Camera Privacy Mode or camera protection and make sure it’s turned off.

After making any changes, close Lenovo Vantage, restart your device and then test the camera again using the Camera app or your meeting application.

If you notice any change after trying this or if Lenovo Vantage doesn’t show any camera‑related options on your device, please let me know. I’ll be happy to guide you through the next steps.

Follow these steps in order on the Lenovo laptop (Windows 10/11):

    1. Check physical camera switch or key (common on Lenovo)
      • Look along the top edge of the screen for a small privacy slider over the camera and make sure it is open.
      • On the keyboard, look for a function key (F1–F12) with a camera icon. Press that key (or Fn + that key) once to enable the webcam. On some Lenovo models, this is the cause when all software settings look correct.
    2. Run the Windows camera troubleshooter
      • Open Start and search for Get Help.
      • In Get Help, run the camera troubleshooter (it will automatically diagnose and fix many camera issues).
    3. Confirm Windows camera privacy settings
      • Go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Camera (Windows 11) or Start > Settings > Privacy > Camera (Windows 10).
      • Make sure Camera access (or Camera access for this device) is On. If it is off and greyed out, an administrator must turn it on.
      • Turn on Let apps access your camera / Allow apps to access your camera.
      • In the list Choose which Microsoft Store apps can access your camera, turn on access for any apps used from Microsoft Store.
      • Scroll down and ensure Let desktop apps access your camera / Allow desktop apps to access your camera is On. This is required for browsers (Google Meet in Edge/Chrome) and apps like Zoom.
    4. Close other apps that might be using the camera
      • Right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager.
      • Close any app that might be using the camera (Teams, Zoom, browsers, camera utilities) by right‑clicking it and choosing End task.
      • Reopen just one meeting app (for example, Zoom) and test the camera.
    5. Check antivirus or security software
      • If any third‑party antivirus or security suite is installed, open it and check for webcam protection or camera blocking features and disable them or allow the meeting apps.
    6. Update the camera driver
      • Select Start > Device Manager.
      • Expand Cameras and locate the laptop camera.
      • Right‑click the camera and select Update driver.
      • Choose Search automatically for drivers so Windows can find and install an updated driver.

If the camera still shows as blocked in all apps after these steps, re-check the Lenovo function key and privacy slider, as those hardware controls can block the camera even when all Windows settings are enabled.
