Hey there! Nice to meet you!

Based on your description, your Microsoft account was compromised. The hacker was able to remove the account's primary email address/security info and replace it with their own email address, which is why you received an error that your account is not recognized when signing in.

The only way to recover a hacked account is through the official Microsoft troubleshooter guide:

    https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/how-to-recover-a-hacked-or-compromised-microsoft-account-24ca907d-bcdf-a44b-4656-47f0cd89c245

In case you can't receive the results from the account recovery webform, please submit another recovery request via Incognito/InPrivate window using different devices and network services. Then kindly check your email inbox, junk, and spam folders.

If the account recovery web form doesn't work, and since the security info has been replaced by the hacker, I'm afraid there is no other working method to recover the Microsoft account, and Microsoft Support cannot help either.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

The error and unknown email indicate a Microsoft account sign‑in problem, not the Minecraft launcher itself. Use these steps to regain access:

    1. Check the email shown on the launcher
      • Make sure the launcher is showing the correct Microsoft account (email domain and spelling). Microsoft accounts can have different country domains like .com or .co.uk, and small spelling differences (for example rachel vs rachael) matter.
      • If the email shown is not yours and you cannot change it in the launcher, sign out in the launcher and choose to sign in with a different Microsoft account, then enter the correct email.
    2. If the correct email is not accepted
      • If the launcher or web sign‑in says the account or password is wrong, use the Microsoft account recovery flow:
        • Go to Recover your account at https://account.live.com/password/reset (from the context: Recover your account).
        • Enter the email, phone number, or Skype name used for the Minecraft purchase.
        • Choose where to receive a security code, enter the code, and then set a new password.
      • Tips from the guidance:
        • Ensure the correct domain (for example, outlook.com vs outlook.co.uk).
        • If one alias is not recognized, try another email or phone number that may be on the same account.
    3. If the sign‑in shows an unfamiliar phone/email for verification
      • When prompted for a verification code, if the phone or email shown is not recognized:
        • Confirm again that the email address being used to sign in is exactly the right one (correct domain and spelling).
        • If it is correct and still shows unknown security info, follow the account recovery process at Recover your account to regain control.
    4. If the account might be compromised
      • If there was a Discord “verification” that asked for Microsoft credentials, the account may have been phished.
      • Follow the hacked/compromised account guidance from Microsoft (via the sign‑in helper and recovery steps):
        • Start with the sign‑in helper: Sign-in Helper from the “I can’t sign in” article.
        • If sign‑in fails, choose Forgot my password and then I think someone else is using my Microsoft account and follow the recovery steps.
      • After regaining access, change the password and review security info on the Security basics page, removing any unknown phone numbers or emails.
    5. If verification codes or methods are blocked
      • If messages like Try another verification method appear or codes do not arrive:
        • Try another verification method on the account (alternate email instead of SMS, or vice versa).
        • Try from a different network (switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data) and avoid repeated attempts for at least 24 hours to let any temporary block clear.
        • Use the sign‑in helper troubleshooter: Start.
    6. If recovery keeps failing
      • Complete the Microsoft account recovery form (ACSR) as fully and accurately as possible, from a familiar device and location.
      • If the form is rejected, it can be retried with more accurate information. If it still fails and the security info has been replaced, official guidance indicates there may be no further way to recover that Microsoft account; in that case, contact Minecraft Support separately about game entitlements, as suggested in the hacked‑account guidance.

Once the correct Microsoft account is recovered and accessible, use that same account to sign in to the Minecraft launcher; the subscription and purchases will follow the Microsoft account, not the device.
