I have instructions on line, but I don't have the options that the instructions state. When in Activation, I have no option to select Switch to Windows 11 Home or Pro.

Click on the Start menu and select Settings.

  1. Navigate to System and then click on Activation.
  2. Under the Switch to Windows 11 Home or Switch to Windows 11 Pro section, locate the option to Switch out of S Mode.

    Hi, good day!

Does "Windows 11 Home in S Mode" appear in Activation settings?

Can you take a screenshot of the Activation settings window and post it in your next response?

The missing “Switch out of S mode” option usually means one of these is true:

    1. The device is no longer in S mode
      • Windows 11 in S mode is only available for the Home edition.
      • If the device is already running standard Windows 11 Home/Pro (not S mode), the Switch to Windows 11 Home/Pro or Switch out of S mode section will not appear in Settings > System > Activation.
    2. The device is managed by an organization (work/school/Intune)
      • An organization can configure policy to keep devices in S mode and hide or block the switch option.
      • Intune has a Mode switch setting with options such as Keep in S mode (prevents users from switching) or Switch (allows switching out of S mode). If Keep in S mode is applied, the switch option will not appear.
      • In this case, contact the organization’s IT administrator to change the policy or perform the switch.
    3. Use the direct Microsoft Store link to the S mode switch page
      • On a Windows 11 S mode device, opening the Store page directly can expose the switch even if the Settings shortcut is confusing or missing.
      • Use the built-in link: Switch out of S Mode.
      • On that page, select Get. After the confirmation, apps from outside Microsoft Store can be installed, and S mode is permanently disabled.
    4. One-way change
      • Switching out of S mode is permanent. After switching, Windows 11 S mode cannot be turned back on for that device.

If the device is Windows 10 in S mode and is being upgraded to Windows 11, switching out of S mode must be done first from Settings > Update & Security > Activation using the Go to the Store link under Switch to Windows 10 Home/Pro, then selecting Get on the Switch out of S mode page.
