Hi! Have you reviewed the options available in here:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/why-did-my-file-open-read-only-3ab4b792-da50-4b38-8628-14c64e1f1d15

You can also test a clean boot in case a third-party app is causing the issue:

    1. Press Start, type msconfig, and open System Configuration.
    2. Go to the Services tab.
    3. Check Hide all Microsoft services.
    4. Click Disable all.
    5. Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
    6. In Task Manager, disable all Enabled startup items.
    7. Close Task Manager, click OK in System Configuration, and restart the PC.

    Welcome Sean Keith,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum.

I know how frustrating it can be when you are unable to open or modify files because they appear as read-only and you receive an “unable to write to that directory” message on Windows Home.

To better understand the scope of the issue, could you please clarify:

    • Does this happen with files in a specific folder (for example Documents or Desktop) or with all folders on the system?
    • Are you signed in using an administrator account on this Windows Home device?

    Looking for your response.
