how does one select multiple photos when transferring them from an android phone to a desktop.

using phone link.

their answer was to long press the picture, and a thumbnail will appear. that did not happen

There are many ways to transfer the photos from the Android phone to the PC using Phone Link. Here is one good option to transfer many photos in a batch:
Make sure the phone and the computer are paired properly on Link to Windows and Phone Link.

Open the gallery on the phone, hold a photo to start selecting, and select all photos you want. Select "Share" and "Link to Windows", select the device you want to transfer to, and the transfer process will start.

To select and transfer multiple photos with Phone Link, use the Phone screen feature and the Gallery app on the Android device, not the Photos tab in Phone Link.

Follow these steps:

1. On the PC, open Phone Link and select Phone screen so the Android screen is mirrored.
2. In the mirrored screen, open the phone’s Gallery app and go to Albums, then open the album with the photos.
3. First selection:
   • Use the mouse on the mirrored screen to long‑press one photo until a checkmark appears on it, then release. (The thumbnail appears when starting to drag in step 5.)
4. Select more photos:
   • Click/tap additional photos to add checkmarks to them.
5. Start the drag:
   • Use the mouse to long‑press again on any of the selected photos. A thumbnail of the selection will appear under the cursor.
6. Drop on the PC:
   • Drag that thumbnail out of the Phone Link window to a folder or the desktop on the PC. When the cursor changes to Copy, release to drop and transfer the photos.

If using Samsung My Files instead of Gallery, the steps are the same: long‑press once to get a checkmark, select more items, then long‑press again to start the drag until the thumbnail appears.

Note: Drag & drop only works from the phone’s Gallery or Samsung My Files apps via Phone screen, and both devices must meet the feature requirements.
