An Azure service that integrates speech processing into apps and services.
Hello KRJ14,
Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A and thank you for posting your questions here.
I understand that you would like to clarify the conflicting information regarding permission to use the free tier of Azure Speech for commercial purposes, such as narration of a YouTube video.
To use Azure Speech Text‑to‑Speech audio commercially (e.g., YouTube narration, you must provision and use a paid Speech resource (Standard/S0 or pay‑as‑you‑go. Do not rely on Free (F0 for commercial output rights. The Product Terms grant TTS output commercial use rights to customers of the paid tier only; the Free tier is a pricing allowance for evaluation/testing and does not carry those output use rights. microsoft.com - https://www.microsoft.com/licensing/terms/productoffering/MicrosoftAzure/MCA
Putting into consideration the followings:
- Licensing control lives in the Product Terms (not forum posts or pricing pages. They are incorporated into your Microsoft Customer Agreement and are the reference for output use rights. - https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/support/legal/
- The pricing page confirms the 0.5M characters/month on F0 but does not grant commercial rights. Allowance =! license. - https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/speech/
- Operationally, F0’s non‑adjustable quotas and higher likelihood of throttling make it unsuitable for production workloads such as long‑form narration. - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ai-services/speech-service/speech-services-quotas-and-limits, and https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ai-services/speech-service/faq-tts
- You must comply with the Microsoft AI Services Code of Conduct, including disclosure that the audio is AI‑generated. - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/legal/ai-code-of-conduct
I hope this is helpful! Do not hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions or clarifications.
