Cannot create Synapse Analytics Workspace in Uk West

Hi,

Are there capacity issues in the Azure Region - UK West or is this specific to our particular subscription/tenant.

We can't create a synapse workspace in uk west as it gives this error: Location 'ukwest' is not accepting creation of new Windows Azure SQL Database servers for the subscription <sub-id> at this time. (Code: SqlServerRegionDoesNotAllowProvisioning)

please make sure the subscription is registered with the Microsoft.Sql resource provider. You can check and register it using the Azure Portal:

Go to Subscriptions

Select your subscription

Open Resource Providers

Look for Microsoft.Sql

If the status is Not Registered, select it and click Register

This ensures the subscription can correctly deploy SQL‑related resources.

Since the Microsoft.Sql provider is already registered and you're still seeing the region‑level provisioning block, the next recommended step is to raise a quota/capacity request with Azure Support. This will allow the Azure capacity team to check whether UK West can allocate additional SQL Server resources for your subscription.

You can create the request here:

https://portal.azure.com/#create/Microsoft.Support

Please select:

Issue type: Quota
Quota type: SQL Database / SQL Server
Region: UK West

This will let the support team review region capacity and advise whether new SQL‑based deployments (including Synapse) can be enabled in UK West.
