I bought a licence for MS 365 personal. When I enter the code and try to activate it says we can't set up your account right now.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

To help narrow down the issue:

    1. Where did you buy the Microsoft 365 Personal license? (Microsoft Store, retail shop, etc.)
    2. Are you redeeming the code at https://setup.office.com?
    3. What exact error message do you see? Any error code?

In the meantime, if you haven’t already:

If it still says "we can't set up your account right now," it could be:

    • A temporary server issue
    • The code already redeemed
    • A region mismatch (code bought in a different country)

If the issue persists, please provide more details by answering my questions.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

The error "we can't set up your account right now" when redeeming a Microsoft 365 Personal product key is typically caused by one of these issues covered in the documentation:

    1. Billing or payment problem on the Microsoft account (ConversionBlockedSubscriptionViolations)
      • Go to the Microsoft account Payment & billing page: https://account.microsoft.com/services/office/billing
      • In the Pay settings section, select Change how you pay or Fix how you pay.
      • Resolve any payment or billing issues shown there, then try redeeming the product key again at Office.com/setup or Microsoft365.com/setup.
    2. Product key purchased for a different country/region (NoMatchingOrEligibleProductsFound)
      • If the key was bought in a different country/region than the one currently used on the Microsoft account, it cannot be redeemed in the current region.
      • In that case, either:
        • Redeem the key using a Microsoft account whose country/region matches where the key was purchased, or
        • If trying to extend an existing Microsoft 365 subscription started in another region, wait until the current subscription fully expires (at least one day after the expiry date), then try using the new key with the same account.
      • If this applies and cannot be resolved, contact Microsoft support for assistance: https://support.microsoft.com/contactus/

If neither of these situations fits (no billing issue and key is from the same region), contact Microsoft Support directly, as some key errors (for example, StackingTrialOnNonTrialNotSupported) require support intervention.
