    Dear @Lesego Thomb

Good day! Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum!

Based on your description, I understand that you would like to upgrade your Microsoft 365 subscription from Basic to Standard, as you are currently on the Basic plan.

To understand the situation better and provide you with the most suitable support, could you confirm the following information:

    • Do you have Global Administrator or Billing Administrator permissions for the tenant?
    • Was the subscription purchased directly from Microsoft, or through a partner/reseller?

Your confirmation would be very helpful in ensuring you receive the most suitable support!

Regarding your situation, if you are a Global Admin or Billing Admin, you can upgrade the subscription directly from the Microsoft 365 Admin Center:

    • Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center using your admin account
    • Go to Billing > Your products
    • Select your Microsoft 365 Business Basic subscription
    • Choose Upgrade or Change plan
    • Select Microsoft 365 Business Standard
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the upgrade

Once completed, licenses are automatically updated, and users will gain access to the additional features included in Business Standard, such as desktop Office apps.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.

Please understand that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

Kindly let me know when there are updates or if you need further assistance. Any updates you’re able to share would be really helpful. I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing how things are going!

Thank you for your time and patience.

To upgrade from Microsoft 365 Basic to a plan with more features (such as Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, or Premium), do the following:

    1. Go to the Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page: account.microsoft.com/services.
    2. Sign in with the same Microsoft account that currently has the Microsoft 365 Basic subscription.
    3. Under your Microsoft 365 Basic subscription, select Manage.
    4. Purchase the Microsoft 365 subscription you want to upgrade to (for example, Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, or Premium), making sure to use the same Microsoft account.
    5. After purchase, the remaining days on your Basic subscription are automatically converted and added to the new subscription. The number of days added depends on what you are upgrading from and to. For upgrades from Basic:
      • To Microsoft 365 Personal: 24% of remaining days are added.
      • To Microsoft 365 Family: 18% of remaining days are added.
      • To Microsoft 365 Premium: 10% of remaining days are added.

Once the new subscription is active, sign out of the Office apps on the Windows device and sign back in with the same Microsoft account to start using the upgraded features in Excel and other apps.

If the subscription was purchased through a third-party billing partner (such as Apple App Store, Google Play, or a retail partner), subscription changes (including switching plans) must be managed through that partner. In that case, go to account.microsoft.com/services, select Manage next to the subscription, and follow the instructions or contact the partner’s support.
