Hello,

I'm an admin for a group on Microsoft Viva Engage. Is there a way to export the list of members (e.g. CSV file, excel file) from a Viva Engage group. I'd like to validate this list, so I know who I should manually removing from the group.

Thanks,

Caroline

    Dear @Caroline Davis,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand that you're looking to export the member list from your Viva Engage group. From my research, currently, Viva Engage does not provide a "one-click" export feature directly within the community interface. However, as a group admin, there are several methods available to export the list of members using administrative tools or the connected Microsoft 365 Group settings. Below are the three ways to get your member list in CSV format:

1.Export via the Viva Engage Admin Center (Best for CSV)

If you have Verified Admin or Network Admin privileges (or can ask someone who does), this is the most direct method to get a raw data file.

    1. Go to the Viva Engage Admin Center.
    2. Navigate to Governance and compliance > Data Management
    3. Choose Export user list, select your desired start and end dates, and then click Download CSV file.
    4. Once the export completes, locate the Users.csv file inside, which will contain the member data for the specified range.

2.Export via Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)

Most Viva Engage communities are "Microsoft 365 Connected." This means the actual member list is managed in the backend as a standard Microsoft 365 Group.

    1. Go to the Microsoft Entra admin center (formerly Azure AD).
    2. Go to Groups > All groups and search for your Viva Engage community name.
    3. Click on the group, then select Members from the left sidebar.
    4. Click Bulk operations at the top and select Download members.
    5. This generates a clean CSV file of all members currently synced to that group.

3.Use the Microsoft 365 Admin Center

If you don't have access to Entra ID, the standard M365 Admin Center is a user-friendly alternative.

    1. Go to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
    2. Navigate to Teams & groups > Active teams & groups.
    3. Select the Microsoft 365 groups tab and click on your community.
    4. Click Export on the ribbon and select Export Group Members.
    5. This will generate a CSV file of all members currently in that group.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments so I can continue to support you. I'm looking forward to your reply.

Yes. Use the Viva Engage data export to get group membership in CSV form and then filter it for the specific group.

    Steps:

    1. In the Viva Engage admin center, go to Governance and compliance > Data Export.
    2. Use one of these export options, depending on scope:
      • Export user data and admin lists – best if the goal is to review all users and their memberships.
      • Export tenant data by date range – best if a specific activity period is needed.
    3. Configure the export:
      • Set the Date range to cover the period of interest.
      • Optionally select Include attachments if file data is also needed (not required just for membership).
      • Optionally select Include external networks if group may be in an external network.
    4. Select Download CSV and extract the .zip file.
    5. In the extracted content, use the CSV that contains group membership data (provided as part of the export’s “User activity data / Group membership” set) and open it in Excel.
    6. Filter the CSV by the specific group ID or group name to get the list of members for that Viva Engage group.
    7. Use this filtered list to validate who should be removed from the group.

This approach gives a CSV/Excel-friendly list of members that can be sorted, filtered, and compared as needed.
