Why have I payed twice using the same microsoft account for Minecraft?

First purchase was done through Mojang's page, where I got redirected to microsoft, payed once and got the minecraft launcher. There it told me to get a xbox pass which I have no need of. Is that a requirement if you only want to play minecraft with other people?

I atleast found a way to get past it but then I had to again pay to access Java.

My microsoft order history has only one purchase even though two transactions were made on my card through microsoft. I have no other microsoft account linked to minecraft.

Since I did the transaction today, would I be able to get a refund? How would I go about requesting that?

Thanks in advance!

Update: I wouldn't see how I could have purchased minecraft without a xbox pass and I can't seem to find how to refund the one that wasn't made through the microsoft store. No one is in use of my card except me. I can't figure out how to contact Microsoft store support, seems to only take me to endless links.

Two Microsoft charges with only one order in Microsoft order history usually mean one of these:

    1. A second payment attempt succeeded after an earlier failure (insufficient funds, temporary bank issue, etc.). These can appear as two close-together card transactions for the same product.
    2. The same card is being used on more than one Microsoft account (for example, a family member’s account), so one of the charges belongs to a different account.
    3. One of the charges is for a different Microsoft service (for example, a subscription such as Xbox Game Pass) that is not immediately obvious from the description.

To investigate and confirm what happened:

    1. Check Microsoft order history carefully
      1. Go to the order history page at account.microsoft.com/billing.
      2. Make sure the correct Microsoft account is signed in.
      3. Use Payment & billing > Order history and adjust the Ordered within filter to include today and recent dates.
      4. Look for any orders with status Completed or Redeemed, including game, app, or subscription purchases.
    2. Check for duplicate or hidden charges
      1. Compare the last few months of card statements with the Microsoft order history to see if there are multiple payments for the same amount close together.
      2. If only one charge appears in order history but two appear on the card, go to Payment options in the Microsoft account and select Investigate to see if the card is being used on another Microsoft account.
    3. Check if one charge is for a subscription (e.g., Game Pass)
      1. In the Microsoft account, review Services & subscriptions to see if any Xbox/Game Pass or other subscriptions were started.
      2. If a subscription was created and is not needed, cancel it and then request a refund if eligible.
    4. Request a refund for the extra/incorrect charge
      1. For accidental or unauthorized purchases (including duplicate or unwanted charges), use the refund process described in Returning items you bought from Microsoft for exchange or refund. This is the official path for refund requests for apps and games purchased from Microsoft Store.
      2. If the charge does not appear in order history or the situation is unclear, contact Microsoft Store Support directly (billing support) so an agent can look up the transactions and process a refund if eligible.

Because the transactions were made today, they are typically within the normal refund window for digital games and subscriptions, but eligibility is determined during the refund request process.

If there is any suspicion that the account or card was used without permission, also follow the guidance to investigate unexpected charges and secure the Microsoft account (change password, review sign-ins, and remove any unwanted payment methods).
