A video editing tool developed by Microsoft, designed to make video creation easy and accessible for everyone.
To make a camera image appear widescreen, the aspect ratio of what is being captured or displayed must be set to a widescreen format such as 16:9.
For video editing or output (for example, if the camera feed is going into a video editor like Clipchamp):
- Open the project in Clipchamp.
- Select the size button on the floating toolbar above the stage.
- Choose a widescreen aspect ratio preset such as 16:9 (widescreen) or 21:9 (cinematic), depending on the desired look.
- If the source video does not match the new aspect ratio and shows black borders, select the clip on the timeline and use the fill button on the floating toolbar to crop/stretch it to fill the widescreen frame.
If multiple clips have different aspect ratios, repeat the fill/crop adjustment per clip so they all fill the widescreen frame.
For games or apps that render graphics (rather than a physical camera), widescreen is achieved by rendering with a widescreen aspect ratio such as 16:9 and adjusting the projection/camera settings so the scene is drawn in that ratio.
