If your Windows licence is provided by a company you work for, you will need to contact the IT Department at your company to ask them to reactivate your licence.

If you are a private user, where did you get your Windows licence was that pre-installed on the PC or did you purchase a full retail Windows licence from Microsoft or from a 3rd party retailer?

Or did a PC Shop ever reinstall Windows on your PC?

Click your Start Button, type cmd then right click Command Prompt and choose 'Run as Administrator'

Run or paste this command and hit Enter:

slmgr.vbs /dlv

A PCN (Public Customer Number) is part of Microsoft Volume Licensing and is not used for standard Windows or Microsoft 365 home activation. For home or individual use, Windows activation requires a valid product key or a digital license, not a PCN.

To activate Windows, use one of these supported methods:

1. If there is a valid product key:
   1. Select Start > Settings > System (or Update & Security on Windows 10) > Activation.
   2. Select Change product key.
   3. Enter the 25‑character product key and complete activation.
2. If Windows shows an activation error such as 0x800704CF or 0x803F7001 and there is no key:
   • A valid product key or digital license is required. The key is usually in the purchase confirmation email, on the device packaging, or on a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) sticker.
   • If no key is available, purchase a new Windows license by selecting Go to Microsoft Store from the Activation page.
3. If this is a work/organization device using volume licensing:
   • Contact the organization’s IT or licensing administrator. They can look up licensing details (including any PCN or volume agreement) in the Microsoft 365 admin center and provide the correct activation method or key.

If a product key cannot be found and this is not an organizational volume‑licensed device, a new Windows product key or digital license must be purchased for activation.
