Putting Word which I PAY FOR on my new computer

Question

Hi it looks like most things automatically transfer over, but not this. (???). How do I transfer and can I keep it on my old computer as I am still using that?

Emily has explained the Subscription possibility but if you're using either of the one-time purchase packages (Office 2024, 2021, 2019, or 2016) it's a different story which depends on the specific version. One thing they all have in common is that all can be installed on only one Mac.

Also, if transfer over means by way of Apple's Migration Assistant it may explain the problem. The Migration Assistant primarily is designed for handling user files & Apple's own software. It typically works well for individual applications but often fails with complex integrated suites, especially if the migration involves different editions of macOS on the source & target Macs. In that case it requires removal of the software & performing a fresh installation.

If you have the subscription (not the perpetual license), then you can just go ahead and install. You can have it on up to 5 devices at the same time.

Please go to https://www.office.com

Sign into the Microsoft account you used for the subscription. Click on Apps on the left.

Then on the upper right, click on "Install apps". This will now download the installer file. Once downloaded, click on the file to install. It will install the Desktop version of the apps for you then.
