Cookies for the following sites won't be cleared when you close the browser. (crash)

cookies

I set Edge on my work computer to delete all cookies on browser exit. I successfully added a site to "Don't clear" a couple of weeks ago. Now, the Edge window (not just the tab) crashes when I try to add any others, when hitting Enter after entering the address, also opting for third party. Other Edge windows are unaffected.

Microsoft Edge is up to date.

Version 145.0.3800.82 (Official build) (64-bit)

I "repaired" Edge, but that didn't help. What to do? I'm tiring of daily second factors.

    Hi Mike Hoopes,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand how frustrating this can be, especially when you rely on Edge to remember trusted sites and end up being prompted to sign in again.

Some users have also reported similar behavior with the **“**Clear browsing data on close” setting, where cookies or site exceptions don’t behave as expected. This issue can happen intermittently depending on the browser version and configuration, so we're hoping this will be improved in an upcoming release by the development team.

In the meantime, you may want to try one of the temporary workarounds below to reduce the impact:

    • Instead of adding sites under Clear browsing data on close, try adding them under Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Cookies, which can help Edge retain cookies for trusted sites.
    • Alternatively, you can leave Cookies and other site data enabled but turn off Site permissions under Clear browsing data on close, which has helped some users avoid the issue.

These steps don’t require reinstalling Edge and can help keep your sessions more stable until an update addresses this behavior.

If you have a moment, I also recommend submitting feedback so the Edge team can better track this behavior. You can do this directly from Edge by pressing Alt + Shift + I, which opens the Feedback form. Adding your experience there helps prioritize fixes in future updates.

I appreciate your patience, and please feel free to let me know if you’d like help applying any of these options.
