Can you please type cmd in the search on the taskbar and hit enter to launch command prompt, then run the following command:

    slmgr /dlv

Then share a screenshot please. Thanks!

Because the motherboard was replaced, Windows sees this as a new device and the old free-upgrade digital license for Windows 11 no longer automatically applies.

    Key points from the context:

    1. Free upgrades from Windows 10 to Windows 11 use a digital license, not a separate Windows 11 product key.
      • If the upgrade to Windows 11 was free from Windows 10, the device had a digital license instead of a product key.
      • Digital licenses are tied to the hardware (especially the motherboard) and, when linked, to the Microsoft account used on that device.
    2. Changing to a new motherboard generally means Windows treats this as a new device, so the previous digital license cannot be used to activate it as a new machine.
      • A previously free-upgraded license from Windows 7/8 to 10/11 cannot be used to activate a completely new device after the loophole for using old keys on new hardware was closed.
    3. What can be done now:
      • Use the existing Windows 10 product key (from the USB/key purchased) and try activating Windows 11 by choosing the option to enter a product key. In a similar scenario, using the existing key as a “new product key” worked.
      • If activation still fails and the old Windows 11 installation was activated via a digital license linked to a Microsoft account, sign in on the new installation with the same Microsoft account and check if activation occurs automatically.
      • If neither works, a new Windows 11 license is required. A full Windows 11 Home or Pro license can be purchased and downloaded, or a new PC with Windows 11 preinstalled can be used.

There is no separate Windows 11 key for the free upgrade; the activation was via digital license tied to the old hardware, which does not automatically transfer to a new motherboard.
