A family of System Center products for managing incidents and problems.
Because the keyboard LEDs do not turn on at all and the cover has already been detached and the device restarted multiple times, this matches a likely hardware failure of the Surface Pro Keyboard/Type Cover rather than a Windows or configuration issue.
Use these steps to confirm and proceed:
- Check for obvious connection issues
- Detach the Keyboard/Type Cover.
- Inspect the connector area on both the Surface Pro 7+ and the keyboard spine for debris or visible damage.
- Reattach the keyboard, ensuring all magnets along the spine fully engage with the bottom edge of the Surface.
- Confirm whether the keyboard has any power
- Press the Caps and Fn keys several times and check if their LED indicators turn on or off.
- In this case, the LEDs are not turning on, which indicates a likely hardware issue with the keyboard itself.
- Verify in UEFI (optional check)
- Turn off the Surface and wait 10 seconds.
- Press and hold Volume Up, then press and release Power while still holding Volume Up.
- When the UEFI screen appears, try using the arrow keys and touchpad.
- If the keyboard and touchpad also do not work in UEFI, this further confirms a hardware problem with the keyboard/Type Cover or its port.
- If still not working, submit a service order
- At this point, the keyboard is likely faulty and needs service or replacement.
- Go to the Microsoft device service page, sign in, and select the Surface Pro Keyboard/Type Cover for repair or replacement.
- If the device is not registered, register it first using the serial number printed near the left side or center of the keyboard spine.
- If out of warranty, consider purchasing a new Surface Pro Keyboard/Type Cover from the Microsoft Store or an authorized retailer.
If the keyboard works in UEFI but not in Windows, the issue is with Windows/software rather than the keyboard, and a Windows reset or recovery on the Surface would be required.
