Original personal account for MS 365 now merged and paid for by my work

MY work merged my old personal MS 365 account I set up under [Moderator's note: PII removed] into my new work account [Moderator's note: PII removed]. My work is paying for it and has since January. However, I was just billed 12.50 to my personal credit card. When I go in to my personal account to cancel the personal subscription it says it is now a Valere account and they are the admin. They do not see any charges or old subscription to cancel. So how do I cancel the 12.50 you just charged my card and get reimbursed for it because my work has been paying it.

The personal Microsoft 365 subscription is still being billed to the personal Microsoft account and card, even though work has a separate, work-managed subscription. The “merged” experience does not automatically cancel or transfer the old personal subscription.

Use these steps to stop future charges and request a refund for the recent one:

    1. Confirm which account is being billed
      1. Go to the Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services.
      2. Sign in specifically with the personal account (the one using the personal email address and personal credit card), not the work account.
      3. Under Services & subscriptions, look for any Microsoft 365 (or other) subscription that shows recurring billing and uses the personal card.
    2. Cancel the personal Microsoft 365 subscription
      1. On the same page, find the personal Microsoft 365 subscription.
      2. Select Manage.
      3. Select Cancel subscription (or Upgrade or Cancel, then choose cancel) and follow the prompts.
        • If instead of Cancel it shows Turn on recurring billing, the subscription is already set to expire and will not be charged again.
Detailed cancellation steps are in the cancellation article: Cancel a Microsoft 365 subscription.
    3. If cancellation options do not appear If the personal account shows that the subscription is controlled by an organization (work tenant) and there is no Cancel or Turn off recurring billing option:
      1. Follow the troubleshooting guidance in Unable to cancel your Microsoft subscription:
        • Make sure the correct personal Microsoft account is used.
        • Verify that the subscription is not actually a work/school subscription (those are managed only by the organization’s IT admin).
        • If still no option to cancel, use the guided support link in that article to reach Microsoft support directly.
    4. Request a refund for the recent charge
      1. After cancelling, follow the refund process for Microsoft 365 subscriptions: How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription.
      2. Sign in with the same personal Microsoft account that was charged.
      3. Check eligibility and submit a refund request for the recent $12.50 charge.
        • Not all cancellations result in a refund; eligibility depends on timing and region.
    5. If the subscription was purchased through a third party If the personal subscription was originally bought via a retailer or app store (e.g., Google Play, Apple App Store, Amazon, Best Buy):
      1. It must be cancelled and refunded through that seller, not through the work tenant.
      2. Use the specific guidance in the cancellation and refund articles for third-party purchases.
    6. If account access is a problem If the correct personal account or credentials cannot be recovered, or the subscription cannot be found under the personal Microsoft account, contact the bank or card issuer to dispute or block further recurring charges, as suggested in similar support scenarios.

This combination of cancelling under the correct personal account, then using the official refund flow (or card issuer if necessary), will stop future personal charges and is the supported way to seek reimbursement for the latest one, independent of the work-paid subscription.
