My Nemo laptop computer stopped the video camera from working out of the blue. No error code.

    Hi,

Is the camera not working in all apps or just a specific app?

To check, type Camera in the search bar and press Enter. Does it work?

Try the suggestions from AI, and if the issue persists, please check the camera lens carefully to see if there is a cover, such as a camera shutter. Slide it open to uncover the webcam.

If the issue remains the same, go to your computer manufacturer’s website and download and install the correct camera driver for your model. Then restart your computer.

Try these steps in order until the camera works again:

    1. Check privacy/physical controls
      • On the keyboard, look for a function key (F1–F12) with a camera icon and press it (or Fn + that key) to toggle the webcam on.
      • Check the camera area above the screen for a physical privacy slider and make sure it is open.
    2. Test the camera in Windows
      • Select Start > Camera and see if the preview works.
      • If it works here but not in apps like Teams or Outlook, the problem is with that specific app’s settings.
    3. Check camera permissions
      • Select Start > Settings > Privacy > Camera.
      • Under Allow access to the camera on this device, select Change and turn on Camera access for this device.
      • Turn on Allow apps to access your camera.
      • Under Choose which Microsoft Store apps can access your camera, turn on the apps that need it.
      • If using desktop apps (Teams, browsers, etc.), make sure Allow desktop apps to access your camera is turned on.
    4. Check for Windows and driver updates
      • Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
      • If available, select Advanced options > Optional updates and install any camera or driver updates.
      • Restart the PC after updates.
    5. Run the Camera troubleshooter
      • Select Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
      • Find Camera and select Run.
    6. Reinstall or change the camera driver
      • Right-click Start > Device Manager.
      • Expand Cameras (or Imaging devices / Sound, video and game controllers) and locate the webcam.
      • Right-click the camera > Uninstall device. If available, check Delete the driver software for this device and select OK.
      • In Device Manager, select Action > Scan for hardware changes and let Windows reinstall the driver, then restart.
      • If the camera still misbehaves and it is a USB webcam, repeat the above but in Update driver choose Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer and select USB Video Device to switch to the in-box UVC driver, then restart. Note: this may disable advanced features such as Windows Hello face recognition.
    7. If the camera is still missing or not working
      • In Device Manager, if the camera does not appear, select Action > Scan for hardware changes again and test a different USB port if it is external.
      • If the device is very old and the driver details show a file including stream.sys, the camera may be too old for current Windows versions and may need replacement.
      • If none of the above works, check the laptop manufacturer’s support page for the exact model and install their latest webcam driver, or contact their support as the camera hardware may have failed.
