A cloud-based identity and access management service for securing user authentication and resource access
The message AADSTS5000225: This tenant has been blocked due to inactivity means the Azure AD tenant behind the Azure account has been put into an inactive/blocked state and can no longer be used normally.
Use these steps to resolve it:
- If the tenant entered the inactive state less than 20 days ago, the tenant administrator can request reactivation by contacting Microsoft support using the global support phone numbers listed for Azure/Microsoft 365. Only Microsoft support can reactivate an inactive tenant.
- When contacting support, provide the tenant information (tenant ID or
*.onmicrosoft.comname) and explain that the tenant is blocked due to inactivity with errorAADSTS5000225. - While the tenant is inactive, sign-in to the Azure portal with that tenant will fail. In some reported cases, going to
https://signup.azure.comand signing in with the same account allowed completion of the subscription upgrade/activation flow and restored access to the free account. - If the tenant has been inactive for more than 20 days, it may already be deleted and cannot be recovered; in that case, a new tenant/account must be created.
If sign-in keeps redirecting to another tenant or account, clear browser cache/cookies or use a private/incognito window before trying again.
