Restart (not shut down) your PC to flush out your RAM.

    2

Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).

    A

Select the Processes tab, then click the Memory column header at the top so the arrow points down on that header.

Please provide a screenshot of that window.

    B

    Select the Performance tab.

Click Memory on the left, please provide a screenshot of that window.

To reduce RAM usage from background and leftover apps in Windows 11, use these steps:

    1. Turn off background activity per app
    • Select Start > Settings > System > Power & battery > Battery usage.
    • For an app using background power, select More options > Manage background activity.
    • Under Let this app run in the background, choose Never to stop it running when not in use.
    1. Disable background apps via app settings
    • Select Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
    • Find an app you don’t want running in the background.
    • Select More options () > Advanced options.
    • Under Background app permissions / Let this app run in background, set it to Never or Power optimized (recommended).
    1. Turn off most background apps (where available)
    • Select Start > Settings > Privacy > Background apps.
    • Under Background Apps, you can:
      • Turn Let apps run in the background Off to stop most Store apps, or
      • Under Choose which apps can run in the background, turn individual apps Off.
    1. Disable startup apps so they don’t load into RAM
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    • Select Startup apps from the left menu.
    • Right-click apps you don’t need at startup and select Disable.
    1. Uninstall apps you don’t use
    • Select Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
    • Find apps you no longer need, select More options () > Uninstall, and confirm.
    1. Desktop apps that don’t appear in lists
    • Some desktop apps (traditional .EXE/.DLL programs) won’t appear under Background apps.
    • For those, open the app itself and look in its own Settings/Options for:
      • “Run at startup”
      • “Run in background”
      • “Minimize to tray”
    • Turn those options off, or uninstall the app if not needed.

These steps will reduce how many apps stay running in the background and free RAM on an 8 GB system.
