How to fix failed Microsoft 365 (Office) installation on Windows 11

Hi,
Previously, I was using Office 365 LTSC (corporate user) and installed it on my laptop with the MS Windows 11 operating system. Since I am no longer a staff member, I cannot access it and cannot use my new account now.

I have already uninstalled Microsoft 365, MS Visio, MS Project, and Outlook. However, the installation still fails when I try to install it again on my laptop.

Please advise what I should do. Thank you.
Best Regard,
Bambang

Which version are you trying to install instead? I am guessing you have some type of consumer (home use) license?

To make sure that you get rid of all traces of older software, you may have to perform a manual uninstall. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/manually-uninstall-office-4e2904ea-25c8-4544-99ee-17696bb3027b .

    Hi Bambang,

There must be an error code when you get while trying to install Microsoft office.

Could you post that for us?

Run the SARA tool as well, as an initial troubleshooting step:

I’m eager to hear back and work together to find a solution.

Follow these steps on Windows 11 to fix the failed Microsoft 365 (Office) installation and get your new account’s Office installed:

    1. Restart the device and try the install again
A partially stuck Office setup is common after previous installs.
      • Save work and restart Windows.
      • After restart, sign in with the account that owns the new Microsoft 365/Office license and start the install again from the Microsoft 365 portal or installer.
This is the first recommended step for many Office install errors, including 30015-1011, 30125-4, 0-1018, 0-2035-0, etc.
    2. Make sure all previous Office installations are fully removed
Leftover components from the old corporate LTSC or preinstalled Office can block a new install. a. Uninstall from Settings (Microsoft Store–based Office)
      • Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
      • Look for any entries named Microsoft 365, Office LTSC, Office 2021/2019/2016, or individual apps like Word, Excel, Visio, Project.
      • Select each and choose Uninstall.
      b. If Office was installed from Microsoft Store and won’t uninstall normally, use PowerShell
      Only if the above fails:
      • Right-click Start > Windows PowerShell (Admin).
      • Run:
             Get-AppxPackage -name "Microsoft.Office.Desktop" | Remove-AppxPackage

      • Wait for it to complete, then verify removal:
             Get-AppxPackage -name "Microsoft.Office.Desktop"

If nothing is returned, the Store-based Office is removed.
      c. If uninstall tools fail or Office is in a broken state
      • Use the Microsoft 365 uninstall troubleshooter (SaRA) if available. If it cannot fully remove Office, follow its guidance to manually uninstall Office as suggested in the troubleshooting article.
    3. Check Windows is fully updated
Some install failures are related to missing or outdated Windows components.
      • Install the latest Windows 10/11 updates as described in the Update Windows article, then restart and try the Office install again.
    4. Repair system files if Windows or Office was corrupted
If the previous corporate Office or uninstall attempts damaged system files, run the System File Checker tool as described in Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files, then restart and retry the Office installation.
    5. Temporarily disable antivirus and firewall, then retry
Security software or network restrictions can block Office setup.
      • Temporarily turn off third‑party antivirus (from its own UI).
      • For Windows Firewall, follow Turn Windows Firewall on or off for Windows 11/10.
      • Try the install again while connected via a stable wired or reliable Wi‑Fi connection.
      • If installing on a work/school network, try installing from home or another unrestricted network.
    6. Use the Office offline installer
If the online installer keeps failing, use the offline installer to bypass proxy/firewall/connection issues:
      • Follow Use the Office offline installer to download the offline setup for the correct Microsoft 365/Office version tied to the new account.
      • Run the offline installer as admin and complete the setup.
    7. Ensure only one bitness (32‑bit or 64‑bit) is installed
If there was a mix of 32‑bit and 64‑bit Office/Visio/Project before, that can cause the “Office (64‑bit or 32‑bit) couldn’t be installed” error.
      • Fully uninstall all Office products as in step 2.
      • Then reinstall only one bitness (32‑bit or 64‑bit) following the guidance in “Office (64-bit or 32-bit) couldn’t be installed” error when trying to install.
    8. If you recently changed plans/accounts
If the new account uses a different Microsoft 365 plan and you see messages that Office can’t be used:
      • Make sure the old subscription’s Office is fully removed (including via the uninstall troubleshooter).
      • Then sign in with the new account and install Office again as described in Troubleshoot installing Office – You recently switched Office 365 plans and now get messages you can't use Office.

If, after all of the above, the installation still fails with a specific error code (for example 30015‑1011, 30125‑4, 0‑1011, 0‑2035‑0, etc.), use the matching error‑code article from the references below and follow its exact sequence (restart, offline installer, SFC, antivirus/firewall steps), then contact Microsoft support if the error persists.
