Windows updates have been causing problems on my Windows 11 HP Laptop for months now. The system is slow , it crashes, takes forever to open and hangs. I also notice under Definition updates that the following is installing itself successfully daily:

KB 22667602 Version 1.445.347.0

I am hardly able to work and wasting hours per day and week of hang and crashes trying to work and even borrowed my daughters macbook - that has no problems to just be able to work.

When are you going to sort all the update problems out

Hi, I'm Bernard, a fellow Windows user. I'm happy to help!

Just to confirm, can you still use the affected device? If so, I need to analyze the error. Can you please check the System logs on the PC so I can further examine the root cause of the issue?

To share the System logs, please follow the steps in the link below:

Press the Windows key + X, then select "Event Viewer"

Click the drop-down of "Windows logs"

Right-click System > click Filter Current logs > Check: Critical, Warning, and Error > Hit OK

On the right pane, click "Save Filtered Log File As..."

Save the System logs file to your desktop and share it by following the steps from the link:

Note: You can also use your preferred cloud storage to upload and share the logs.

KB2267602 is the regular Microsoft Defender Antivirus definition update. It is expected to install frequently (often daily or multiple times per day) and, by itself, is not an error or a sign of a problem. The repeated successful installations shown under “Definition updates” are normal behavior and not the root cause of the crashes and hangs.

To address the performance, crashing, and hanging issues on the Windows 11 HP laptop, use the supported troubleshooting flow for Windows Update and system stability:

    1. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter
      • Open Settings > Update & Security (or Windows Update in Windows 11) > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
      • Run the Windows Update troubleshooter and apply any fixes it suggests.
      • If update errors persist, use the guidance in Troubleshoot problems updating Windows to walk through the standard steps (checking services, clearing space, etc.).
    2. Verify date and time settings Incorrect time can interfere with Windows Update and some security components.
      • Select Start > Settings > Time & language.
      • Select Date & time.
      • Turn on Set time automatically and, if available, select Sync now under Synchronize your clock.
    3. Ensure there is enough free disk space Low disk space can cause severe slowness and instability.
      • Confirm there is at least 20 GB free for a 64‑bit system.
      • If space is low, follow the guidance in Free up drive space in Windows (linked from the Windows Update troubleshooting article) to remove temporary files and unused apps.
    4. Update third‑party drivers Outdated or faulty drivers can cause crashes and hangs.
      • For any added hardware, check the manufacturer’s site for updated Windows 11 drivers and install them.
      • After updating drivers, run Windows Update again.
    5. Apply all pending Windows updates and restart
      • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates.
      • Install all offered updates.
      • Then select Start > Power and choose Update and restart or Update and shut down so that all updates are fully applied.
    6. If update issues continue, use the general Windows 11 update troubleshooting
      • Use the guidance under Troubleshoot Windows 11 upgrade and Installation errors and Troubleshoot problems updating Windows from the Windows 11 update history pages (22H2, 23H2, 24H2) to systematically work through remaining update or activation issues.
    7. If the system remains unstable after all troubleshooting
      • Use Settings > System > Recovery and choose a repair/reinstall option that keeps personal files (for example, “Reinstall” or “Reset this PC” with Keep my files) as described in similar Windows 11 repair guidance. This reinstalls Windows while preserving personal data and often resolves deep system corruption that standard troubleshooting cannot fix.

These steps focus on fixing underlying Windows Update and system integrity problems. The repeated KB2267602 definition updates are normal and should be left enabled so that Microsoft Defender stays current.
