The error AADSTS5000225: This tenant has been blocked due to inactivity indicates that the Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) tenant has been put into an inaccessible state because it was not used for some time.
For an inactive tenant, only Microsoft support can reactivate it, and only within a limited time window:
- Tenants blocked due to inactivity can be reactivated only within 20 days after they become inaccessible.
- After 20 days in this state, the tenant is deleted and cannot be recovered.
Required actions for the tenant administrator:

- Tenant name:
- Contact Microsoft support immediately
- As the tenant administrator, open a support case with Microsoft and request reactivation of the inactive tenant.
- Use the official support channels and, if needed, the global support phone numbers listed in the documentation.
- Provide the tenant name, and if available, tenant ID, plus the error code
AADSTS5000225and the timestamp/trace information. - Do not submit multiple requests for the same issue; wait for the response and decision on the initial case.
- If reactivation is not requested or not possible
- If the tenant remains inaccessible for more than 20 days, it is deleted and cannot be restored.
- In that case, data in the tenant is not recoverable; review Microsoft’s data protection policies for further details.
If the tenant is still within the 20‑day reactivation window, only Microsoft support can confirm this and perform the reactivation. Domain‑ownership proof (such as DNS TXT record or email verification) can be provided to support if they request it during the verification process.
