Hi,

we have a lot of templates with this drawing areas, we have to insert images in this areas and ran into this error. Anyone there, who can helping us?

Word for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2601 Build 16.0.19628.20214) 64 Bit

Word for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2602 Build 16.0.19725.20126) 64 Bit

If we want to insert images into a drawing area, the file selection appears again, meaning we have to select each image twice.

Thank you very much,

Oliver

I can reproduce this behavior in Word from Microsoft 365, (Version 2602 Build 16.0.19725.20126) 64 Bit (Current Channel). The answers to Nam-D's questions are "Yes" for all three. This is clearly a bug.

Additionally, it isn't caused by an add-in. First because Safe Mode prevents the loading of any add-ins, and second because the only add-ins on my system are ones I wrote myself, so they're unlikely to be on Oliver's systems.

Report the problem to Microsoft's developers by using the Help > Feedback > Report a Problem feature. The developers don't get reports from this forum.

    Hi @Oliver Findeisen,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Since this only happens when inserting images into a drawing area (and not directly into the document body), this is likely related to how Word handles the Drawing Canvas object rather than the image file itself. To help narrow this down, could you please confirm:

    1. Does the issue occur if you insert the image outside of the drawing area?
    2. If you create a brand-new blank document and manually insert a new Drawing Canvas, does the same behavior occur?
    3. Does the issue persist when Word is started in Safe Mode? (Press Win + R, type winword /safe, then test inserting an image.)

If it works normally in Safe Mode, the issue may be caused by an add-in interfering with the insert command. Additionally, please confirm which update channel you are using (Monthly Enterprise, Current Channel, etc.).

Looking forward to your feedback so I can narrow this down further.
