Inquiry Regarding Unlocking $1,000 Azure Credits for Startup Application

Hi Microsoft for Startups Team,

I am currently applying for startup funding and attempting to unlock the $1,000 Azure credits. However, I have been unable to complete the process successfully.

I would appreciate clarification on the following:

What are the exact eligibility requirements to unlock the $1,000 Azure credits?

Are there specific verification steps that commonly block activation?

Does my Azure subscription or billing country affect eligibility?

How long does approval typically take after submission?

Is there any additional documentation required for Nigerian startups?

For context, I am building Flexa, a digital lending platform, and we intend to use Azure services immediately upon approval.

Kindly advise on the next steps to resolve this.

Best regards,

Afeez Abiodun

Founder, Flexa

    Hello Afeez Odusola,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A,

    Eligibility Requirements:

    • You must be a new Azure customer with no prior Azure account.
    • You must sign in using a valid personal Microsoft Account (MSA).
    • You must be in a country/region where this Azure offer is available.

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/signups/overview#eligibility-requirements

    The most frequent blockers are:

    1. Using a work/school account instead of a personal MSA
    2. Existing Azure subscription
    3. Credit card issues

    Billing Country affects Eligibility:

Yes, it can. Your startup must be headquartered in a country where Azure services are available. Nigeria is generally supported, but if you encounter a country-specific block during sign-up, you may need to raise a support request through the Microsoft for Startups portal to get it reviewed.

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-for-startups/application

The initial $1,000 credit is available with no application. You just sign up at microsoft.com/startups with your personal MSA and set up your Azure account. Credits are automatically applied to your new Azure Sponsorship subscription. If you're applying for the additional $5,000 (via business verification), verification may take up to seven business days.
