My new laptop came wit a 1 year subscription to Office 365. I bought a card from Best Buy for MS Office Home. My emails only go back to April of 225, so I can't retrieve my activation code. Please advise.

If you purchased MS Office Home from Best Buy, did you ever previously activate that licence?

If you did, that is then a digital licence associated to your Microsoft account, log into your Microsoft account on this link, do you find your Office Home licence linked to your account there.

Because the receipt and original email are missing, the product key itself cannot be recovered online, but there are still a few options:

    1. Confirm what came with the laptop
      • A new Windows PC that “came with Office” usually includes a 1‑month Microsoft 365 Family trial or a preinstalled offer, not a separate product key. In that case, activation is done with a Microsoft account, not with a key.
      • If the laptop included a paid Office/Microsoft 365 offer, a digital product key was transmitted to the PC when Windows was activated; no printed key is provided. Activation is again tied to the Microsoft account used when first setting up Office.
    2. Check whether the Best Buy card still has the key
      • If the physical Office Home product key card is still available, carefully check the back for the 25‑character key in the format XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX. Some cards require scratching off a silver foil area to reveal the key.
      • If the key area was scratched and is now unreadable, this is treated as a damaged product key.
    3. Try redeeming/installing without the key
      • If the card was already redeemed in the past, the key is no longer needed. Go to the Microsoft account, Services & subscriptions page and sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used when the card was redeemed. From there, install or reinstall Office Home directly; activation will follow the account, not the key.
    4. If the product key is lost or damaged
      • When the product key is lost, stolen, or damaged but there is valid proof of purchase, Microsoft Support may be able to help replace the key or offer alternatives. Proof of purchase can sometimes be a store receipt, order confirmation, or other documentation from the retailer.
      • Use Microsoft support to reach support and provide any documentation available (e.g., bank/credit card statement showing the Best Buy purchase, the physical card, etc.).
    5. If the key never worked or was blocked
      • If the key from the card does not work or has stopped working, contact the seller (Best Buy) and request a refund or replacement. Keys sold separately from software can sometimes be invalid or blocked.
    6. Going forward
      • Once Office Home is successfully redeemed, always associate it with a Microsoft account and use that account for future installs and activation instead of relying on the product key or email receipt.
