    Hello Jen Renaud,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum!

I understand that you are having issue with Microsoft 365 Family sharing. I truly understand how you feel. Let me assist you go through this situation.

Based on your description, it seems like:

Here is my suggestion for you:

Option A: Wait until your Personal subscription fully expires on 3/22/26, then retry.

    • Do nothing until after 3/22/26 (Personal must be fully expired, not just canceled).
    • After expiration: Your husband goes to https://account.microsoft.com/ > Services & subscriptions > Share
    • He removes any pending invite to you (important).
    • He sends a new invitation.
    • You click Get Started > Join Now.
    • The Family subscription activates normally.

Option B: Immediate fix If you don’t want to wait until 3/22/26:

    On your husband’s account

    On your account

    Retry

    • Ask your husband sends a new invite.
    • You accept using the exact Microsoft account email tied to your Personal subscription.

I hope this will help with your situation. Please feel free to reach back if you have further update or more questions.

    Best Regards,

Use these checks and steps to get added to the Family subscription:

    1. Confirm the correct subscription type
    • The invitation only works if the sharer has Microsoft 365 Family or Microsoft 365 Premium.
    • If the sharer has Microsoft 365 Personal, it cannot be shared.
    • The sharer should sign in to the Subscriptions page and verify the plan is Family or Premium.
    1. Make sure the invitation was sent correctly
    • The sharer should go to the Microsoft 365 Subscriptions sharing page: https://account.microsoft.com/services/office/sharing and select Share.
    • They can:
      • Use Email invite and enter the exact email address used for the Microsoft account that should receive the benefits, then select Invite.
      • Or use Create link, then Copy link and send that link.
    • The invitation must be accepted within 48 hours; otherwise, it expires and needs to be resent.
    1. Check for common invitation issues
    • If the invitation email is not visible, check the junk/spam folder for a message with “Microsoft 365” in the subject.
    • The sharer can resend the invite from the same sharing page by finding the name/email and choosing Resend invite.
    1. Leave any existing Microsoft family group
    • Accepting a shared Microsoft 365 Family or Premium subscription automatically adds the recipient to the sharer’s Microsoft Family group.
    • If already in another family group, that group must be left first; otherwise, the invitation cannot be completed.
    1. Accept the invitation correctly
    • In the invitation email or link, select Get started.
    • Sign in with the Microsoft account that should receive the subscription.
    • On the Microsoft Family Safety site, select Join now to join the sharer’s family group.
    • After joining the family group, the subscription benefits should appear on the account.
    1. If the invite still does not work
    • The sharer should verify on the sharing dashboard that:
      • The subscription is active.
      • There are shares remaining (maximum of 5 people can be added).
      • The status for the invitee is not already showing as part of another shared subscription.

Once successfully added and joined to the family group, the account will have access to the Microsoft 365 Family benefits, regardless of the old Personal subscription’s pending expiration.
