I renewed my Microsoft 365 subscription, however I get message "No License Found" when I try to save in Excel, after I enter my email address...the same email address the subscription was renewed under.

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

If you can see your subscription listed under your Microsoft account at https://account.microsoft.com/services but are having trouble activating it on your Mac, try running the Office License Removal Tool. This tool will remove any previous Office license traces from your device so you can then reactivate your subscription.

You can download and install the Office License Removal Tool from the Official Microsoft website here-

If you are still running into issues, let me know.

The "No License Found" message indicates that the account used in Excel does not have an eligible Microsoft 365 license associated with it, or the app is not picking up the correct license.

    Follow these steps:

    1. Confirm the subscription type and status
      • Go to the Microsoft account Subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services (from a browser on any device).
      • Sign in with the same email address used to renew the subscription.
      • Under Subscriptions or Cancelled subscriptions, verify:
        • The subscription is listed.
        • The status is active, not expired or cancelled.
      • If the subscription shown is Microsoft 365 Basic, note that this plan does not include the right to install desktop Office apps; it only provides OneDrive storage and web apps. In that case, Excel for Mac cannot be activated with that subscription and will continue to show license errors. Only Microsoft 365 Personal or Family (or business plans) allow installing and activating the desktop apps.
    2. Make sure Excel is signed in with the correct account
      • In Excel for Mac, open any workbook.
      • Go to File → Account (or Excel → About/Account depending on version).
      • Check which account is shown under User Information.
      • If it is not the same account that has the active Microsoft 365 Personal/Family or business subscription, sign out of all accounts in Excel/Office, close all Office apps, then reopen Excel and sign in with the correct licensed account.
    3. Update or refresh the license in the app
      • In Excel, go to File → Account.
      • Use Update License (or similar option) and sign in again with the account that has the active subscription.
      • After signing in, restart Excel and test saving again.
    4. Check for multiple or conflicting licenses
      • If there were older Office or Microsoft 365 licenses on the device (for example, an old Office 365 E3 or different subscription), they can conflict with the new one.
      • Remove or deactivate old/unused licenses from the account or device if visible in the Account view, then ensure only the correct, active subscription remains associated.
    5. If still seeing "No License Found"
      • Confirm again on the Subscriptions page that the plan is not Microsoft 365 Basic.
      • If the subscription is correct (Personal/Family or business) and active, and Excel is signed in with that same account but still shows "No License Found", contact Microsoft support or post on Microsoft Community with details, as further account-level or activation troubleshooting may be required.
