I created a Microsoft 365 tenant solely to purchase a Minecraft Education subscription.

I am now completely unable to sign in to the tenant, and I am the only administrator.

Because I cannot access the tenant, I cannot cancel the subscription or manage billing.

I am requesting: - Cancellation of the Minecraft Education subscription - A refund of any charges - Escalation to Microsoft Data Protection / Billing team I can provide the tenant domain, invoice number, and proof of ownership via private message.

    Dear @LGG,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I apologize for any inconvenience you may encounter when using our services/ products. To help you with the issue, we need more specific information from you:

    • Are you not unable to sign in your tenant is because of MFA issue?

If yes, please try to follow these steps:

Option 1: You may need to contact the Data Protection Team at the service phone number via this link: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support.

The main objective is to go through the IVR (automated system) until you reach a live agent and emphasize this very important security factor. Please help me try this script below, this is a commonly used script for authentication issues to bypass IVR, but you can try to see if it helps get through the system. Please help me to speak loudly, only keywords, clearly and patiently waiting for the machine's response. First, when you call the hotline, they will ask you what kind of problem you are facing with.

    Answer: Authenticator.
A: What products do you use?
    B: Office 365 for business.
    Verification: Education or corporate account?
    B: For companies
    A: Are you an administrator?
    B: Yes.
A: Are there other administrators in your organization?
    B: No.
A: I need one.... Service request?
    B: Yes

When you speak with a real agent, they can create a ticket for you in the affected tenant and then transfer that ticket to the Data Protection team.

Option 2: Create a new tenant with trial subscription to access and submit a ticket in the Admin Center.

If you still cannot get in touch with a real person for help, help me try the following:

Sign up for a free trial (new tenant with trial subscription) of Microsoft 365 at this link: Compare All Microsoft 365 Plans | Microsoft. The goal is to create a temporary tenant with a Global Administrator account so that you can sign in to the Microsoft Admin Center. Once connected, you can submit a support ticket directly to Microsoft. Please remember to cancel the trial subscription once your issue is resolved to avoid unwanted charges.

How to submit support ticket in Admin Center: Get support - Microsoft 365 Admin | Microsoft Learn

Once you contact the Data Protection team, you will be required to provide proof of ownership of your account. This allows them to verify their identity and help reassign the Global Administrator account.

After regaining access, kindly go to Microsoft 365 admin center > Billing > Your products > find Minecraft Education and cancel it.

As a moderator, I do not have the tools to investigate your specific account directly, as this is a support forum between users. Moderators and collaborators, including external Microsoft employees, may not directly intervene in the functionality of Microsoft products or access internal systems. Our role is limited to providing technical guidance on reported problems, requests, or ideas. However, I will do my best to guide you as clearly as possible.

Cancellation and refund cannot be done directly without access to the tenant. The only supported path is to work with Microsoft support so identity and tenant ownership can be verified, then have billing handled through standard channels.

    Use these steps:

    1. Regain or validate access to the tenant (if possible)
      • If the tenant might be inaccessible due to inactivity (error like AADSTS5000225: This tenant has been blocked due to inactivity), a tenant administrator must contact Microsoft using the global support phone numbers to request reactivation within 20 days. See the guidance in Tenant inaccessible due to inactivity.
      • If locked out for other reasons (lost admin, credentials, etc.), open a support ticket so the Data Protection Team can help reset an admin account or confirm ownership of the tenant. See Discover your Microsoft cloud footprint FAQ – How can I regain access to a tenant owned by my organization?
    2. If tenant access cannot be restored, escalate via support
      • Open a support ticket specifically for a locked-out tenant and billing issue using the global customer service phone numbers. The Data Protection Team can:
        • Help reset credentials of an administrator account.
        • Help claim ownership of a normal tenant.
      • Explain that the tenant was created only for Minecraft Education, that there is no other admin, and that cancellation/refund is required but cannot be done because sign-in fails.
      • Be prepared to provide, when requested by support, the tenant domain, invoice/charge details, and any proof of ownership or domain control. Identity verification is mandatory; support cannot bypass it.
    3. Request cancellation of the subscription and refund
      • Once support has either reactivated the tenant or confirmed ownership, ask them to:
        • Cancel the Minecraft Education / Microsoft 365 subscription in that tenant.
        • Review eligibility for a refund under the Microsoft subscription refund and cancellation policies.
      • If the subscription is visible under the Microsoft 365 billing account, support can also assist in canceling it as part of quarantining or closing an unwanted tenant, as described under Quarantine unsanctioned tenants – Canceling subscriptions provisioned in suspected tenants.
    4. Avoid creating duplicate tenants
      • Do not create a new tenant to try to fix this; tenant ownership and access decisions are handled only through Microsoft 365 support and the Data Protection/Data Protection Team processes.

All tenant access recovery, ownership, and billing actions (including cancellation and any refund) must go through official Microsoft 365 support and Data Protection processes; community forums and documentation cannot perform these actions or accept private messages with tenant details.
