Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A Forum!
I understand how frustrating this can be, especially when you’ve already tried the usual steps and the Windows Store still won’t open. Since Windows 8.1 is end of support, you can try these workarounds instead, as they are the most commonly effective options still available on this version of Windows.
Reset the Windows Store cache
- Press Windows key + R to open Run.
- Type wsreset.exe and press Enter.
- A blank Command Prompt window will appear and close automatically; the Store should then try to open.
Make sure Windows 8.1 is fully up to date
- Open Control Panel > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates and install all available important updates.
- Ensure all required platform updates are installed, as several Windows Store launch and crash issues were addressed through cumulative updates.
- Restart the PC after updates complete.
Check date, time, and region settings
- Open Control Panel > Date and Time and confirm the date, time, and time zone are correct.
- Open Control Panel > Region and make sure your location is set correctly.
- Restart the device and test the Store again.
If the Store still fails to open, it may indicate deeper system corruption, in which case please consider upgrading to newer Windows version,
I hope this helps clarify the situation and gives you a practical path forward. Have a great day!
