Microsoft Error Reporting 2.2 (MERP 2.0) is an old component that AutoUpdate can keep trying to update. Deleting the component stops Microsoft AutoUpdate from offering that update repeatedly.
To remove Microsoft Error Reporting 2.2 on macOS so AutoUpdate stops prompting for it:
- Open Microsoft AutoUpdate when the update notification appears.
- In the AutoUpdate window, locate the entry for Microsoft Error Reporting 2.2.
- Right‑click the icon next to Microsoft Error Reporting 2.2 and choose Show in Finder.
- Finder opens the folder:
-
/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MERP2.0
-
- In that folder, delete the MERP2.0 folder (administrator credentials may be required).
If AutoUpdate is not open, the same folder can be reached manually:
- Open Finder.
- In the menu bar, use Go → Computer and open the system disk (for example Macintosh HD or Macintosh HD – Data).
- Navigate to:
Library → Application Support → Microsoft. - Delete the MERP2.0 folder.
After deleting MERP2.0, run Microsoft AutoUpdate again; the Microsoft Error Reporting 2.2 update should no longer appear.
If AutoUpdate itself shows errors or does not run correctly, install the latest Microsoft AutoUpdate version using the installer from the official article, then retry the steps above.
