A tool for managing user identities, credentials, and access across on-premises and cloud environments
For a Windows 10/11 PC to appear under the devices section of a Microsoft account, it must be correctly associated with that Microsoft account and not be a macOS, Android, or iOS device, as those cannot be added.
Key points and checks:
- Supported device types
- Only Windows 10/11 and Surface devices (plus Xbox) can be shown and managed as devices in a personal Microsoft account.
- macOS, Android, and iOS devices cannot be added to the Microsoft account devices list at all.
- How Windows devices are added
- Windows 10/11 devices are automatically added to the devices list when signed in with a Microsoft account on that device.
- Surface devices can also be added manually by registering the serial number.
- Verify the PC is correctly signed in
- On the affected PC, open Settings and confirm it is signed in with the same Microsoft account that shows the other two devices.
- If the PC is managed by an organization (work or school), it may be joined to Microsoft Entra ID or managed by IT; in that case, it should not be renamed or manually registered as a personal device.
- Rename the PC to help identify it
- If the device is correctly associated but hard to distinguish, rename it so it is easier to recognize in the devices list:
- Open Settings and select Rename this PC.
- Enter a new name and select Next.
- Select Restart now or Restart later.
- If the device is correctly associated but hard to distinguish, rename it so it is easier to recognize in the devices list:
- When manual registration is needed (Surface only)
- If this is a Surface device that does not appear automatically, register it manually:
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/devices and sign in.
- Select Register device.
- Enter the device’s serial number.
- If this is a Surface device that does not appear automatically, register it manually:
If the device is Windows 10/11, is signed in with the correct Microsoft account, is not managed solely by an organization, and still does not appear, the documented options are limited to ensuring proper sign-in and, for Surface, manual registration. There is no additional documented workaround beyond these steps and the platform limitations (no macOS/Android/iOS listing).
