Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

A Microsoft account has one shared storage limit for Outlook email, OneDrive, and attachments. Even if you uninstalled OneDrive, the storage tied to the account is still counted.

When attachments take up most of the space, Outlook may block sending even before the total storage is fully used.

You can try to free up Outlook Attachment storage: https://support.microsoft.com/office/storage-limits-in-outlook-com-7ac99134-69e5-4619-ac0b-2d313bba5e9e expand the section "How to clean up your Mailbox"

After freeing space (or purchasing additional storage), it can take up to 24 to 48 hours for everything to fully update across your account. I’d recommend waiting that time and check again OneDrive after that.

If the update is still pending after 24 hours, you can try unlinking and relinking your OneDrive account, or resetting it. "Unlink and re-link OneDrive" https://support.microsoft.com/office/unlink-and-re-link-onedrive-3c4680bf-cc36-4204-9ca5-e7b24cdd23ea

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

The emails are about Microsoft cloud storage (OneDrive/Microsoft storage), not Gmail storage. Even if OneDrive is uninstalled and never actively used, the Microsoft account still has cloud storage that can fill up and trigger “out of storage” or “Microsoft Unified Storage is full” messages.

Key points from how Microsoft storage works:

    1. OneDrive/Microsoft storage exists even if the app is uninstalled
      • OneDrive storage is tied to the Microsoft account, not to the PC or phone. Uninstalling the app or turning off sync does not remove or reset the cloud storage.
      • It is not possible to delete the OneDrive storage itself without deleting the Microsoft account.
    2. What “0 bytes over” means
      • “Microsoft Unified Storage is full” or similar messages mean the cloud storage quota has been exceeded, even by a tiny amount (for example, 0 bytes over after rounding).
      • This unified storage includes OneDrive files, items in the OneDrive Recycle Bin, and other Microsoft cloud content, not Gmail.
    3. Why this can happen “without using OneDrive”
      • Files may have been uploaded in the past (for example from a previous device, automatic camera roll backup, or saving Office documents to OneDrive by default).
      • Items in the OneDrive Recycle Bin still count toward the storage quota until the bin is emptied.
    4. How to fix it
      • Sign in to OneDrive on the web and check what is using space and whether the Recycle Bin contains items:
        • Use Manage your OneDrive storage or Storage used to see largest files and overall usage.
        • Empty the OneDrive Recycle Bin online; emptying the PC’s Recycle Bin does not clear the OneDrive Recycle Bin.
      • If still over quota after deleting and emptying the Recycle Bin, either delete more content or buy more storage.
      • It can take up to 24 hours for the quota display and warning emails to stop after cleaning up.
    5. Effects of being over Microsoft storage
      • When Microsoft cloud storage is exceeded:
        • New files cannot be uploaded, edited, or synced to OneDrive; existing files become read‑only.
        • Outlook.com email and some other Microsoft services (like Teams attachments) can stop working until storage is freed or more storage is purchased.

In summary, the warning emails are about Microsoft’s cloud storage quota on the Microsoft account (OneDrive/Microsoft storage), not Gmail. To stop them, sign in to the Microsoft account’s OneDrive storage online, delete unnecessary files, empty the OneDrive Recycle Bin, and wait for the quota to update.
