Locked out of my Microsoft Azure account.

I am unable to log into my Azure account using personal account which has been added as an alternate account on the visual studio subscription page to use the Azure $150 credit. I can log into my Microsoft account, but Azure won’t let me in and keeps throwing the error: ‘Your account has been locked Contact your support person to unlock it, then try again.’

Can someone please help?

Thanks

    Hello Sabahat Durrani

As discussed offline, you were able to login to Azure Portal using onmicrosoft.com UPN.

Also the credits are now showing up.

The Azure sign-in is blocked even though the personal Microsoft account itself works. This typically means the Microsoft Entra (Azure AD) account associated with that personal identity is locked or otherwise restricted at the tenant level.

Because this is an Azure/Microsoft Entra sign-in lock, only the tenant’s admins or Microsoft’s Data Protection teams can restore access. The exact path depends on who administers the tenant that hosts the Visual Studio subscription benefits:

    1. If this is a work/school tenant and there are other global admins
      • Contact a global admin in the tenant and ask them to:
        • Check the Microsoft Entra ID user object for that personal account.
        • Remove any lock/disable state and re-enable sign-in.
      • If self-service password reset or security info reset is enabled, use the documented flow to reset the work/school sign-in: see Reset your work or school password using security info.
    2. If this is a work/school tenant and there is no other global admin, or the only global admin is locked out
      • Use the official escalation paths described under “Solve account access problems”:
        • If the locked account is the only global admin on the tenant, contact the Azure Data Protection team at the phone number listed in the guidance.
        • If the company has no global admin or the admin is inaccessible, follow the instructions to reach the Microsoft 365 Data Protection team via the regional support number and request help restoring access and/or assigning a global admin.
      • These teams can validate identity and unlock or reset the tenant admin account so Azure access is restored.
    3. If this is a personal Microsoft account only (no work/school tenant ownership)
      • Confirm that the Microsoft account itself is not locked for Terms of Use violations:
        • Sign in at https://account.microsoft.com.
        • If a lock message appears, follow the on-screen flow to request and enter a security code to unlock the account. Any SMS-capable phone number can be used; it does not need to be associated with the account.
      • If the Microsoft account is locked and cannot be unlocked via SMS (for example, verification issues), use the Microsoft account sign-in helper and recovery form flows described in the account recovery guidance to regain access first.
    4. If none of the above work or the tenant relationship is unclear
      • Use the “Support for Business Products” route described in the account-access guidance to reach Microsoft support.
      • Sign in with any working Microsoft account (or create a new one) and open a support request describing:
        • The tenant where the Visual Studio subscription is assigned.
        • The personal Microsoft account being used as the alternate sign-in.
        • The exact Azure error: “Your account has been locked. Contact your support person to unlock it, then try again.”
      • Ask to be routed to the appropriate Data Protection team for tenant lockout/account lock issues.

Once the tenant-side lock is cleared by an admin or Data Protection, Azure sign-in with the personal account that holds the Visual Studio subscription credit should succeed again.
