i purchased a Minecraft java and bedrock edition bundle from the official Microsoft store and sent it as a gift to my girlfriend. when she went to redeem the code, it gave an error message saying, "This code cant be redeemed. it was purchased in a different region from your account." i have done everything i could to help the issue but i couldn't seem to resolve it. the purchase was made on the 28th of February, 2026... it even took the money from my card. if you could resend another code to the email that it was gifted to, or give a refund, then that would be amazing, please...

Hello, I'm Quinn and here to help!

This error usually happens when the region of the gift purchase is different from the region set on the account redeeming the code. Please check that both accounts have the same Country/Region:

    1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/profile
    2. Verify the Country/Region on both your account and your girlfriend’s account.

If the regions already match and the code still cannot be redeemed, I recommend to contact Microsoft Support so they can review the purchase and assist with a replacement code or refund:

    1. Go to https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact
    2. In the search box, type Contact Support
    3. Click Get Help
    4. Scroll down and click Contact Support
    5. In *Products and services, *select Windows
    6. In Category, select Technical Support
    7. Click Confirm, and choose Choose a support option available

The error indicates a region mismatch between where the Minecraft gift code was purchased and the region of the Microsoft account trying to redeem it. Gift cards and digital codes are region-locked and must be redeemed in the same country/region as the purchasing account and currency.

    Key points from the policies:

    1. Gift card and code region rules
      • Denominations in a certain currency may only be added to a Microsoft account registered in the jurisdiction that recognizes that currency as an official currency.
      • The balance or code can then only be used in Participating Stores available in the jurisdiction where the account is registered.
      • Account balance and codes cannot be converted to another currency or transferred to another Microsoft account.
    2. What this means for the current situation
      • The Minecraft bundle gift was purchased in one region (based on the buyer’s Microsoft Store region and payment method).
      • The recipient’s Microsoft account is set to a different country/region, so the code cannot be redeemed there.
      • This is by design and cannot be bypassed by changing regions after the fact or using VPN/proxy.
    3. Practical next steps
      • Verify both regions:
        • Confirm the country/region of the purchasing Microsoft account (the one used in Microsoft Store on February 28, 2026).
        • Confirm the country/region of the recipient’s Microsoft account.
      • If they differ, there are only two compliant options:
        1. Recipient redeems the code using an account whose region matches the purchasing region.
        2. Request help from Microsoft Store support to resolve the purchase (typically by refunding the original transaction so a new gift can be purchased in the correct region).
    4. How to contact Microsoft Store support
      • Use the Microsoft Store support channel for billing and purchase issues. For home users, select Get help on the Microsoft Store support page, describe that the gifted Minecraft code is region-locked and cannot be redeemed, and request either:
        • A refund of the original purchase, or
        • Cancellation and reissue of a new code valid for the recipient’s region (if support offers that option in the specific case).
      • If needed, use the regional phone numbers listed for Microsoft Store Sales Support to speak with an agent and reference the purchase date and order number from the Microsoft account order history.

Because this is an account- and billing-specific issue, only Microsoft Store support can actually resend a code or process a refund; self-service options cannot override the region restriction.
