Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

You can try installing the FingerPrinter drivers from your PC Manufacturer's website. See if it helps.

Go to https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers and select your laptop model.

Navigate to Drivers & Download Section, then download the FingerPrint drivers for your model and install them.

Once installed, restart your computer and set up FingerPrint again.

Use Device Manager and Windows Update to reinstall a working biometric (fingerprint) driver and, if needed, remove any broken WBF/WBDI driver before reinstalling.

    1. Open Device Manager
      1. Right‑click Start and select Device Manager.
      2. Expand Biometric devices (or Other devices if it shows as unknown).
    2. Uninstall the current fingerprint driver
      1. Right‑click the fingerprint device entry and select Uninstall device.
      2. This time, if the Delete the driver software for this device checkbox is shown, select it so the old driver package is removed.
      3. Click Uninstall and then restart Windows.
    3. Let Windows reinstall the driver
      1. After restart, go back to Device Manager.
      2. From the menu, select Action > Scan for hardware changes.
      3. If Windows finds the fingerprint sensor, it will try to install an inbox WBF/WBDI driver.
    4. Update the driver
      1. In Device Manager, right‑click the fingerprint device > Update driver.
      2. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
      3. Also run Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates to pull any biometric driver updates.
    5. If the device uses a legacy (non‑WBDI) driver If a WBDI (Windows Biometric Driver Interface) driver is installed but the device really needs a legacy driver from HP, replace it using the documented sequence:
      1. Close all apps that use biometrics.
      2. Uninstall the WBDI driver from Device Manager.
      3. Stop the Windows Biometric Framework (WBF) service, restart it, then stop it again (via services.msc).
      4. Install the legacy HP fingerprint driver package for the new laptop model.
    6. Re‑enroll fingerprints
      1. Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign‑in options > Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello).
      2. Remove any existing fingerprint data for the old device.
      3. Select Add a finger and register fingerprints again.

If, after reinstalling, the sensor still does not respond or shows device‑failure errors in Event Log, the issue can be caused by incorrect handling of device removal/reattach in the biometric stack; in that case, keeping the driver and system fully updated is required to pick up fixes.
