Follow these steps on the MacBook to resolve Word 365 error 0x0 and get Microsoft 365 working:

    1. Confirm the subscription and license
    • Make sure the Microsoft 365 subscription is active and that the account being used has a valid license that allows Office apps on Mac.
    • If an admin manages the tenant, they should:
      1. Go to Microsoft 365 Admin CenterUsersActive users.
      2. Select the affected user.
      3. Open Licenses and Apps.
      4. Ensure a Microsoft 365 license that includes Office apps is assigned.
      5. If already assigned, uncheck it, Save changes, then recheck it and Save changes again.
    1. Sign out of Office and sign back in
    2. Open Word (or any Office app).
    3. Select the name/profile icon at the top.
    4. Choose Sign out.
    5. Close the app completely.
    6. Reopen Word and select Sign in.
    7. Sign in with the work or school account (or the Microsoft account that owns the subscription/one‑time purchase), not a different personal account.
    8. Try activating again and check if Word opens without error.
    9. Remove old/incorrect license files Old or conflicting licenses on Mac can prevent activation and cause repeated errors.
    • Run the Mac license removal tool as described in How to remove Office license files on a Mac.
    • After removing the license files, reopen Word, sign in again with the correct licensed account, and let it reactivate.
    1. If apps still fail, fully remove and reinstall Office for Mac If Word and other apps still will not work after fixing licensing and activation:
    2. Quit all Office apps.
    3. In Finder → Applications, select all Microsoft 365 apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote) and move them to Trash.
    4. In Finder → Go → Go to Folder…, go to ~/Library/Containers/ and delete folders starting with:
      • com.microsoft.Word
      • com.microsoft.Excel
      • com.microsoft.Powerpoint
      • com.microsoft.Outlook
      • com.microsoft.OneNote
    5. In the same Library, open Group Containers and move these (if present) to Trash:
      • UBF8T346G9.ms
      • UBF8T346G9.Office
    6. Empty the Trash.
    7. Sign in to the Microsoft account or work account that owns the subscription and download/install Microsoft 365 for Mac again.
    8. Open Word, sign in when prompted, and verify it activates and runs without the 0x0 error.
    9. If prompted repeatedly to activate If Word opens but keeps asking to activate or shows “Activate Office to Create and Edit” even after activation:
    10. Quit Word.
    11. Open Spotlight → search Keychain.
    12. In Keychain, search for Office and delete the data license entry.
    13. Run the license removal tool again.
    14. Reopen Word and sign in to activate.

If the Mac is running an older macOS, ensure it supports the current Microsoft 365 for Mac build; older systems may require installing the most recent Office version that is compatible with that macOS.
