To speak with a live Microsoft support agent about a lost Excel file, use one of these options depending on the product type (home use, Microsoft 365/Office):
- Use the Microsoft 365/Office support flow (recommended for Microsoft 365 for home)
- Go to the Microsoft Office Support home page: Microsoft Office Support.
- At the bottom of the page, select Contact Us.
- In the box that appears, type a brief description such as “lost Excel file” and select Contact Support.
- Choose your product (for example, Microsoft 365 subscription or Excel).
- Follow the prompts to select a support option such as Chat or Call back to talk to a live agent.
- Use the Get Help / Contact Support experience
- Open the Get Help app on Windows (search for “Get Help” in the Start menu) or go to the online support entry point: Contact Microsoft Office Support.
- Enter a short description like “lost Excel file”.
- Scroll down and choose Contact support or Get help if shown.
- Select the product category (for example, Microsoft 365 and Office → Excel).
- Confirm and then choose Chat or Call me back to connect with a live agent.
- If using a Microsoft 365 subscription for home
- With Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, Family, or Premium, technical support for Excel is available via chat and call back. Use the Chat or receive a call back from a technical support expert option described here: Microsoft 365 Customer Service and Support.
- If using a one-time purchase of Office (non‑subscription)
- For Office 2024/2021 (home use), support includes chat and call back (for activation). For broader support, upgrading to a Microsoft 365 subscription is recommended, but chat support is still available via the Office Support site and Contact Us flow described above.
If the online flows do not work or you prefer phone, use the global customer service phone directory referenced here: Customer service phone numbers to find a regional number and speak to a live agent.
For the lost Excel file itself, once connected, ask specifically about:
- Restoring a previous version of an Excel file.
- Repairing or recovering a corrupted workbook.
