Hello, my Microsoft email account is currently locked and I am unable to sign in. I have already tried the account recovery form, but it was declined. And I noticed there is a recovery email listed that is not mine Could you please help me remove the incorrect recovery email and regain access to my account? Thank you very much!

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

Based on your description, "I noticed there is a recovery email listed that is not mine"

This means your account was compromised. The hacker was able to remove the account's primary email address/security info and replace it with their own email address.

The only way to recover a hacked account is through the official Microsoft troubleshooter guide:

    https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/how-to-recover-a-hacked-or-compromised-microsoft-account-24ca907d-bcdf-a44b-4656-47f0cd89c245

If you didn't receive the results from the account recovery webform, please try submitting another request via Incognito/InPrivate window and using different devices and network services. Then please check your email inbox, junk, and spam folders.

If the account recovery web form doesn't work, and since the security info has been replaced by the hacker, I'm afraid there is no other working method to recover the Microsoft account, and Microsoft Support cannot help either.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

The incorrect recovery email cannot be removed or changed from outside the locked account, and support agents cannot bypass the automated security process or edit account details.

To try to regain access and then fix the recovery info:

    1. Use the Sign‑in Helper/unlock path
      • If the account is blocked/locked, start with the Sign-in Helper flow for Outlook/Microsoft accounts: Sign-in Helper.
      • If, when signing in, there is no Next button and a lock message appears, follow the aka.ms/ link shown there and submit the requested information. A Microsoft Online Safety agent will review it and contact via email.
    2. If recovery form was declined
      • Account recovery is fully automated; if the form was declined, it can be retried with better data but cannot be overridden by support.
      • Wait until the daily limit resets (up to 24 hours) and then submit the Microsoft account recovery form again from a familiar device and location (home/office) that was previously used to sign in.
      • Use the guidance in Help with the Microsoft account recovery form to improve the chances of success and provide as much accurate information as possible.
      • If the account still “does not exist” or recovery continues to fail, there is no alternative manual method to unlock or edit the recovery email.
    3. If access is eventually restored
      • Sign in and go to Advanced security options.
      • Select Add a new way to sign in or verify, add a correct phone/email, verify it, then remove the incorrect recovery email.
      • Avoid changing all security info at once to prevent a 30‑day restriction.

If none of the above works (recovery repeatedly fails and the account stays locked), the account cannot be recovered or corrected, and a new Microsoft account will be required for future use.
