1. Confirm the exact activation error code shown in Settings → System → Activation and compare it with the “Most common Windows Activation errors” table.
2. If the error is 0xC004C020 (volume license used on too many devices):
   • This means the volume license has been used on more devices than allowed.
   • Contact the organization’s IT support or licensing administrator to obtain a new valid key or to free an existing activation.
3. If the error is 0x8007232B, 0xC004F074, 0xC004F038, or 0x8007007B:
   • Ensure the edition installed matches the key (for example, Windows 11 Pro volume key must be used with Windows 11 Pro, not Home).
   • If this is a work device that should activate via KMS, connect it to the corporate network and try activation again.
