Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server stuck in "Updating" state and database unavailable.

Symptoms: - Server state is "Updating" for several hours - Database endpoint does not respond on port 5432 - Restart operation fails with ServerIsNotReady - Resource update fails with ServerIsBusy - Activity Log shows no running operation - Resource Health shows "Available" This appears to be a stuck backend provisioning operation. We also attempted a point-in-time restore which created a new server without user databases. Is there any way to reset the provisioning state or force restart the backend?

This issue affects a production workload and the database is currently unavailable.

The server has been stuck in "Updating" state for several hours and all management operations are blocked.

Could someone from the Azure PostgreSQL team please help investigate the backend provisioning state?

az postgres flexible-server show --name bot-prod-db-postgresql-flex --resource-group BOT_PROD --query "{state:state,sku:sku.name,version:version}"

Additional diagnostics:

DNS resolves correctly: bot-prod-db-postgresql-flex.postgres.database.azure.com -> 20.67.213.243

Test-NetConnection to port 5432 fails - az postgres flexible-server restart fails with ServerIsNotReady

az resource update fails with ServerIsBusy

Resource state remains "Updating"

Database is unreachable and this is affecting production

This strongly suggests a stuck backend provisioning operation with the PostgreSQL runtime node down. Please escalate to the Azure PostgreSQL team for backend intervention.

Hi @Mojmir Chabron

Initially, the Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server in the Azure portal got stuck in the updating state.

In further investigation, we attempted to stop and start the VM from the backend which helped to get the Server back to ready state.
