I am attempting to get my child back into his account for minecraft. He does not know his password, and it does not seem the password from June is working anymore. Additionally, i am unable to successfully complete the automated form. Given it is a child account I manage in my parental account, is there a way to reset that password - or is the account lost forever?

I'm so sorry you and your child are experiencing this.

I would suggest checking this link for more information on how to secure Microsoft accounts to prevent any hacking incidents: https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/how-to-help-keep-your-microsoft-account-secure-628538c2-7006-33bb-5ef4-c917657362b9Best regards,

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

If you do not have access to the account's verification methods for a password reset, I'm afraid the only way to recover the account is through the account recovery web form: https://account.live.com/acsr

Important: If your son has an active 2FA, ACSR will inform you that your recovery request will be ignored. If you only receive a message that the recovery request is either successful or indicates insufficient information, this means that 2FA is disabled.

You'll need to keep trying until you're verified by Microsoft, and you can do this up to 2 times every 24 hours.

If you didn't receive the results from the account recovery webform, please try submitting another request via Incognito/InPrivate window and using different devices and network services. Then please check your email inbox, junk, and spam folders.

If your Microsoft account recovery request was not granted, please review this link for tips on improving your chances of a successful recovery: https://support.microsoft.com/office/dc56c3e3-dff0-4ed5-8edb-60290eea6b53

Please be advised that Microsoft Support will not be able to grant you access to your son's account.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

For a child’s Microsoft account, password reset and recovery still use the same self-service tools as any other personal Microsoft account. A family organizer cannot directly override or bypass those security steps, even for a managed child account.

    Use these steps:

    1. Try standard password reset
      • Go to the Microsoft account sign-in page for the child’s account.
      • On the Enter password screen, select Forgotten your password?.
      • If that screen is not open, use the Reset password flow here: Reset password.
      • Enter the child’s Microsoft account email and select Next.
    2. Verify identity using existing security info
      • In Step 2: Verify your identity, choose one of the verification options shown (email, phone, etc.).
      • If a code can be received, follow:
        • Select the method, select Next.
        • Retype the first part of the email or last four digits of the phone number as prompted.
        • Select Get code, retrieve it, then enter it.
      • After verification, complete Step 4 to set a new password.
    3. If no verification option works
      • If no usable option appears, or none are accessible, use the Sign-in Helper tool as directed in the reset article:
    4. If the password reset still fails
      • Use the Account recovery form (ACSR) from the guidance in Help with the Microsoft account recovery form:
        • Ensure there is a working email (can be the parent’s) to receive responses.
        • Complete the form from a device and location commonly used for that child’s account.
        • Provide as much accurate information as possible.
      • The form is reviewed automatically; a response is typically sent within 24 hours.
    5. Important limitations
      • If two-step verification was turned on for the child’s account and none of the security methods (phone, email, authenticator) are accessible, support agents cannot reset the password or change security info. In that case, the account cannot be recovered.
      • If the system reports that the Microsoft account does not exist, follow the guidance under My username and password have stopped working and verify the address and domain are correct.

If the recovery tools and forms cannot verify ownership, the account (and associated Minecraft sign-in) cannot be restored, and a new Microsoft account would be required for future use.
