I choose a family subscription and paid for 1 year - can I cancel after 1-2 months and get prorated refund? I will take a business account instead

Yes, you can cancel a Microsoft 365 Family subscription, but refunds are not always prorated automatically. It depends on where the subscription was purchased and the refund policy for your region. If you bought it directly from Microsoft, you can try cancelling it here: https://account.microsoft.com/services After cancelling, check if the "Turn off recurring billing and request a refund" option appears. If it does, you may receive a prorated refund.

Also, keep in mind that Microsoft 365 Business plans are separate subscriptions, so you would need to cancel the Family plan first before moving to a business plan.

Cancellation is possible at any time, but whether a prorated refund is available depends on where the subscription was purchased and the country of purchase.

For consumer Microsoft 365 Family subscriptions bought directly from Microsoft:

1. First cancel the Family subscription:
   1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 and sign in with the same Microsoft account that purchased the Family subscription.
   2. Find the Microsoft 365 Family subscription and select Manage.
   3. Select Cancel (or Upgrade or Cancel) and follow the on‑screen steps.
2. Prorated refund eligibility is country‑specific:
   • In these countries, any subscription length (annual, monthly, or other) may be eligible for a prorated refund when cancelled:
     • Canada
     • Israel
     • Korea
     • Turkey
   • In these countries, only subscriptions longer than 1 month that have renewed are eligible for a prorated refund for the renewal period (initial purchase and monthly plans are not eligible):
     • Denmark
     • Finland
     • Germany (purchases on or after March 1, 2022)
     • Netherlands
     • Poland
     • Portugal

If the Family subscription was purchased in one of the eligible countries above and meets the conditions (subscription length and, where required, renewal status), cancelling after 1–2 months can result in a prorated refund. If it was purchased in a country not listed, or does not meet those conditions, cancelling will typically stop future charges but not provide a prorated refund.

After cancelling, a separate Microsoft 365 Business subscription can be purchased as needed.
