    Hi ew we,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand that after moving files and apps between the C: drive and D: drive, your personal folders such as Videos now appear mixed with system or app-related folders like app data or OneDriveTemp, causing your files to look disorganized.

Please make sure you already tried the Q&A Assist steps. In addition, please try the following.

Before moving forward, I’d like to narrow this down a bit:

1, Did you move your Videos or other user folders by right-clicking the folder, selecting Properties, and using the Location tab?

2, Are you currently signed in to Windows with a personal Microsoft account or a local account?

In the meantime, you can try these steps:

1, Check the actual location of the Videos folder

    • Open File Explorer
    • Right-click the Videos folder under This PC
    • Select Properties, then open the Location tab
    • Confirm whether the path points to a standard user folder or directly to the root of the D: drive

2, Restore the default Videos folder location

    • In the Location tab, select Restore Default
    • Apply the change and allow Windows to move files if prompted

3, Review the root of the D: drive for misplaced folders

    • Open This PC and double-click the D: drive
    • Look for folders that appear to be system-related or app-related
    • Do not delete them yet; only note what appears to be out of place

4, Verify where new content is being saved

    • Open Settings
    • Go to System, then Storage
    • Open Advanced storage settings and select Where new content is saved
    • Ensure documents, videos, and other content types are set to the intended drive

5, Reinstall any apps that were manually moved

    • If any apps were moved by cutting and pasting their folders between drives
    • Reinstall those apps so Windows can recreate their folders correctly

6, Restart the device and recheck folder structure

    • After restarting, open Videos again
    • Confirm whether system or temporary folders are still appearing there

    Hi,

Did you move the folders using the location Tab in the Properties of the folder?

Let us find the root cause of the problem.

Type Regedit in the search or Run and press Enter.

    Go to

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Take a screenshot and post in the next reply.

I’m eager to hear back and work together to find a solution.

The issue is likely caused by moving apps and system-related folders from the C: drive to D:, or by saving new app/content locations to D:. This can mix system folders (like app folders or temporary OneDrive folders) into user libraries such as Videos.

Use these steps to clean up and prevent further problems:

    1. Move personal files off D: if needed
      • Open File Explorer from the taskbar.
      • Under This PC, open Videos, Pictures, Documents, Downloads, etc.
      • Sort by size or type and move only personal files (videos, photos, documents) to another folder or external drive if needed, not system or app folders.
      • To move files to an external drive:
        1. Connect a USB drive or SD card.
        2. Select the files, then use Cut and Paste to move them to the external drive.
    2. Check where new content is being saved (Windows 11)
      • Select Start > Settings > System > Storage > Advanced storage settings > Where new content is saved.
      • For each content type (documents, music, pictures, videos, etc.), make sure the correct drive is selected. If apps or content were set to save to D: unintentionally, change them back to the desired drive.
    3. Check where new content is being saved (Windows 10)
      • Select Start > Settings > System > Storage.
      • Under More storage settings, select Change where new content is saved.
      • For each content type, select the correct drive from the drop-down list.
    4. Clean up unwanted folders in Videos
      • In File Explorer, open the Videos folder.
      • If system-looking folders (for example, app folders or OneDriveTemp) are inside Videos because of a mistaken move, do not delete them blindly.
      • If they clearly belong to an app that was moved manually, reinstall that app so it recreates its folders correctly on C:, then remove the stray copy from Videos.
    5. Free up and organize space
      • If the drives are getting full or cluttered, delete unneeded personal files or move them to an external drive as described above.
      • Consider turning on OneDrive Files On-Demand so cloud files don’t take full space on the drive.

If apps were moved by cutting and pasting their folders between C: and D:, some apps may need to be reinstalled so they work correctly and their folders return to proper locations.
