Assuming it is a User Template rather than an Office Template supplied with the program just use File> New from Template in Word, then right-click the template icon & select the Delete command. The Office templates cannot be deleted. Note that the capability may vary depending on version of macOS & Office.

To delete a Word template in Word 365 for Mac:

    1. In Finder, open the folder: /Users/<username>/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content/Templates (Replace <username> with the macOS account name.)
    2. Locate the Word template file you want to remove (for example, a .dotx or .dotm file).
    3. Drag that template file to the Trash.

After this, the template will no longer appear in Word’s template list.
